I have ridden all over Europe unsupported and on organised supported tours including London to Paris, London to Istanbul, London to Monte Carlo, Majorca, Pyrenees, Alps, Athens to London (including full length of Italy) and I can safely say in such a (relatively) small geographic area (compared to US or Asia) that Europe is simply a playground for the cyclist - of all abilities! My favourite location, and i feel that every time i'm there, is the Alps - the entire mountain region is beautiful - from the Dolomites in the East , the mighty Stelvio pass on the Italy/Austria/Swiss border (central) to the French Alps on the West...the cafés, the food, wine, cuisine it's all absolutely stunning and incredibly cycling friendly...it's so good, it's as almost the Alps were made for cyclists and cycling. As well as riding unsupported, over the years i have used many tour operators that provide trips and holidays there but the last few years i have only used one, simply because they know what they're doing and they are such good fun...there itineraries aren't bad either! They are not overpriced either, in fact i've always given a good tip each time because i'm so impressed with the whole operation i don't actually feel i've paid enough - sounds crazy but true!
