The final summarised concept collage that portrayed everything I aspired the scheme to have was grafted into this image. A collage of my previous concepts, showing the typologies of ‘The Artist’s Spire’ and how I wanted them to link to Coventry’s heritage whilst being integrated into the site’s urban framework. The project was located in Coventry and was a proposal that formed part of the 2021 Coventry City of Culture scheme.

My site was Broadgate public square in Coventry. This image shows the historicak footprint of the site in the 1930s prior to when it was bombed during the Blitz in 1940 and the plan from the 1960s after the space had been redeveloped. Moreover, it shows images of the square throughout the 20th century to the 21st century showing how it has changed frequently. At the top left are site themes and key ideas I took note of throughout my analysis. The axonometric was completed using a sketchup model.

This image went on to inspire the main concept of my scheme as it expressed a society that values religious tradition. Our unit went on a trip to Lisbon and we had to create a ‘fragment’ that represented how the architecture we visited during our trip would inform our design. I was inspired by Quinta da Regaleira Sintra, which were palace gardens that featured wells and a network of underground caves. Moreover, I was inspired by the MAAT art museum and how it used one big space to exhibit one singular piece of art.

Before designing the architecture in my scheme, I collaged the composite of typologies [co-housing, artist studios and exhibition spaces] and demonstrated how the spaces could work together and function whilst expressing how the scheme will be routed into public space and Coventry’s heritage.

Concept model showing possible access routes buried into the site that lead to a tower. The tightly wound shape represents a tunnel underneath the site whereas the rectangular wire frame represents a tower that is above the surface. This model became part of the basis for my final concept , despite the messy nature of the process - it’s value to my development was critical.

1:200 Ground Floor Plan of my 3rd Year Project 2 ‘The Pastry & Panto Emporium’. The site was filled with listed trees that could not be cut and the project was based on reigniting the existing culture of Coventry whilst progressing themes of current society. Therefore, my scheme involved residents of Coventry making the local ‘god cake’ in cooking workshops and reinterpreting its ingredients depending on their nationality. Whilst the god cakes were cooking the attendees would then watch a silent play, avoiding language barriers, depicting an old tale from Coventry’s past - including the stories of Lady Godiva and the Guy of Wawrick.

Rendered structural section of my group design project during Year 2. I used a section from a revit model, then drew details using autocad and rendered using photoshop. This was a project for my Tectonics module and I received the highest mark in the year.

I painted two 5ft x 4ft images of Hayley Williams using acrylics. I used a distortion grid on one piece to represent how idols and the perception of people varies between individuals, as one person can mean a lot to someone yet nothing to another. I am stood in the middle of the painting to show the height.
