“Um, sure.”
“Excellent. You look great by the way.”
“Me? Um, sure I guess. Don’t be surprised when I step on your feet though.”
“My feet have been through worse. You’ll be fine.”
“You sure you can handle a dance with me, Bagman?”
“I think I can handle it. Plus if I’m an unbearable partner it’s just one dance.”
“Only once, and thank Merlin there’s no pictures!”
“I’ve managed to avoid bad suits altogether but I”m willing to bet that you have more occasion to purchase suits in general.”
“Mind if I steal you away for a dance?”
“Watch it, mate, this is my good suit!”
“Have you invested in a bad suit?”
Lily loved dances. It wasn’t often that she got dressed up, and the same applied to many of her classmates. So perhaps that was the reason she seemed to enjoy them so much. Or maybe it was the music that was just a little too loud; loud enough to keep all thoughts of upcoming papers and exams on bay.
But being alone at a dance was something Lily did not love.
Mary disappeared only a few minutes after arriving, leaving Lily to her own devices. And, with her poor luck, she failed to notice the person that stepped in front of her, causing her to spill the cup of punch she’d been holding on both herself and the other.
“Merlin, I am so sorry!”
“Merlin! That’s okay just a bit cold.”
Ludo pulled the drenched fabric away from his body. He’d gone to grab his own punch for himself and Emma but she would just have to wait. It was good that his suit was dark enough that the stain only left a dark patch rather than the bright red stain that would have appeared on a lighter fabric.
Ludo took a second to pull his wand out and froze. Cleaning spells weren’t his forte and he didn’t know how to remove a stain from the fine fabric of the suit. There had to be something special about cleaning good clothes.
“Any idea how to clean dress clothes Evans?”
“Right, I heard you were nominated, Bagman. I reckon you’re the only lad that actually wants to win.”
“The way I see it, I’m friends with a lot of the candidates for queen. It would be pretty fun to have that experience with someone who I hold so close and dear to me.”
Asking → Emma/Ludo
Once he had touched her arm, she made sure she didn’t flinch. The forced kissing was one thing, but she never told him about the classroom. About how there were little mentions of worse intentions; how she did use a hex on Dolohov — of course that should’ve been justified by the circumstances.
Returning the small smile, she replied. “Maybe you’re right… I’m sure we can manage later?” However when Ludo brought up about her being off in her thoughts, Emma shrugged. She obviously wasn’t sure how to say it — or what to say, even — but she had to say something.
“There’s a lot going on, is all. First with Dolohov, now with the dance coming up…”
“Ah the dance. Seems to be the thing on everyone’s mind.” He gathered the books into his arms and tilted his head towards the front desk to check them out. “I’d be stressed out if I was a girl who had to find a hairstyle that would work with a crown. From what I hear you are queen material.”
He paused as he looked over at her. He’d been meaning to ask her to the dance for some time now but it never seemed like the perfect moment. With Dolohov in the mix, she probably wouldn’t want to go with anyone romantically.
His footsteps faltered as he saw the front desk come into view. He couldn’t ask her in front of a librarian. That wasn’t smooth or romantic at all but he couldn’t go all out without appearing creepy. He stopped and paced into one of the aisles before pausing to face her again.
“Boys, please do be careful!” McGonagall shouted after the shouting cluster of students passed her in the halls. “The last thing we need today is another student to divert Madam Pomfrey’s attention!”
“It takes a lot more than a fall out of someone’s arms to take me out of commission Professor. From what I remember my worst fall is because your team took me out during a game.”
“I’m rooting for you, Ludo.”
“From what I’m hearing it will be a close race. No matter what happens I’m stealing you away for a dance.”
“OI ! Longbottom ! Cresswell ! Bloody traitors, ain’t you ?” Gideon called out, waiting for the other two to walk off before he approached Ludo. “Dunno how you’ve managed to secure Dirk’s vote, mate. Considering he’s up en running against ya, yeah ? Fuckin’ charming bastard, ain’t ya ? Or maybe - en this is more likely - he’s just taking the piss, ‘cos you’re a todger en all, yeah ?”
“Managed to get Vanity to say yes, innit ? Hey, fuckin’ good pull, mate.”
“I’m just that charming. It’s something you might find difficult to understand because it doesn’t typically involve fists.”
“Yeah, she’s pretty great. You manage to ask anyone yet? From what I hear you seem interested in someone but you know how rumors can be at this school... One flirty look in the great hall and everyone talks...”
❝ Me’ arms are killin’ me here, Ludo! ‘M not strong like you, y’know — Just skin ‘en bones! ❞ Otto despaired playfully as he lugged his brother through the corridors, Ludo yelling ‘Bagman for King!’ at every student that passed by. When Otto had agreed to spend the afternoon with Ludo; this wasn’t exactly what he’d had in mind.
“Well gotta show the brotherly support here mate.” Ludo said as he shifted so he could be put back on his own feet. “Besides, I heard through the grapevine that I’ve missed a few things since we last sat down and talked.”
“No way, never!”
“Gryffindor vote is split mate. Your brother stands a better chance than you do.”

After everything that had been happening, Emma took little notice of the Ball coming up soon. That was, however, until she kept hearing people talk of it. And the King and Queen nominations - she supposed she should go. Especially since she was one of the candidates for the Queen title.
Besides maybe it would make her forget about recent events. A good distraction; she loved getting dressed up, so it’d be perfect. Or well as perfect as it can get.
But at the sound of books hitting the library table, Emma looked up - coming out of her own thoughts. Right now, she had a project to work on with Ludo; any dance related topics would have to wait. Unless he wanted to talk about it, that is.
“Did you find them?”
“Yeah, for the most part. Looks like a couple were already checked out but nothing that we desperately need.”
He looked over at her in concern. She wasn’t as jumpy as other girls would be given the situation but it was obvious that the whole thing with Dolohov left her shaken.
Ludo reached a hand out and placed it on her arm with a small smile. “You sure you want to work on all of this now? I’m sure now that we have the books the rest will fall into place.” If it came down to it, he could cover a lot of the project on his own. It wouldn’t be ideal but it would take some of the stress off of Emma. “You just seemed to be in your own world when I came back.”
“Bagman for king!”
