I'M ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH BOOK ONE so pls don't spoil but i love you Num & Say 💕
listen when i was sketching i was wondering if Say is like,,, chopstick size or walkingstick size?? and then when i was doing some designs i was like does Say have hair?? and i liked the idea of a mass of yarn hair and that it looks like a mop
so if you see Num walking around it looks like he's just using a mop as a walking stick / wizard staff and then he'll turn and you'll see that the mop hAS A FACE
(then i found a quote that Say has no hair and Num moves him around like he's chopstick sized but im attached to big boi mop Say)
also. i keep jokingly referring to Num as "little ghost boy" and i just realised that im subconsciously referencing the "oh no little german boy" meme lmao
almost immediately after i posted this i started getting videos from @kermycrashout who has this delightful lil kermit puppet and it's actually sooooo similar to what i was imagining for Say when i was toying with the idea of a frog doll head
dont think i drew them as gross as i was imagining but that wouldve been more in the colours and line art i guess
yoinked some lotr screenshots, also not quite what i have in my head but close enough i guess. i was imagining that you only see the mouth and jaw, everything else is shadowed by the hoods. imaginign sickly gums and jagged yellowed teeth and spots and black saliva/blood dripping from gaping jaws etc
🤔 i actually thought Rodda was going to go another way with the wordsmiths because the line that described them as all single men seemed poignant, especially with their venerated status and power -- with their education and their control of the fourth floor etc. i thought their isolation wouldve been explored more and how that would make them vicious and unrelenting and unempathetic but alas
anywayyy my early theory was that derry was the son of a wordsmith and thats why he could read unlike everyone else.
couldnt possibly fathom the How but im imagining that outside the. palace? he met a woman from the countryside and there was something about her that was intriguing and yadayayada they fall in love and i guess either:
he manages to have a secret family for ~ten years while continuing wordsmith duties -- until he's discovered with conflicting loyalties, with lies, hypocrisies, or he becomes a problem and they try to get rid of him or something. then it's a race to the family home and to escape to the shore
(which now that im writing it out, the threat of pursuit would parallel nissa and the Executioner, and all of the landovel books are about echoes of the past and repeated actions so. kinda reminiscent of that by accident lol)
he escapes immediately to be with his love and raise their son in the countryside (scene of the teapot??) away from the palace (maybe the pregnancy is a trigger to snap him out of it or maybe it happens later when he dares to live a humble domestic life instead) -- until they finally track him down to their lil cottage.
(ohhhhhh my god just remembered there's an episode in star wars clone wars where they come across a clone that defected from the army and was living a nice farmers life with his wife and kids. long story short maybe that was in my subconscious lmao) (also! jarred and anna)
i was imagining they get word ahead of time and theres just enough time to pack up and head to shore and catch a boat to Free. but i suppose maybe only one makes it to the boat, and maybe neither of them do, only derry.
either way in my little exploratory thumbnail sketches i ended up with the mum dies when cram's crew boards, she was probably defending her family or maybe she was just outspoken and they hated it. the dad is sold into slavery somewhere, and in book three derry wouldve come across him. and thats the moment when things fall into place in the rodda styled book if you know what i mean. it'd be like when doom got his memories back.
anyway i still dont understand what the hell is going on with the "time lines" but im choosing to believe that means all AUs are canon
The concept of Doran the Dragonlover is so funny. Grizzled explorer who everyone thinks is insane somehow gets open access to the royal family and has clearance to write directly into the national record books even though it pisses the librarians off
I refuse to believe that the True Landovel scientists and engineers managed to create a giant fuck off laser weapon solely using the melted down scrap-metal of old farming machines and half-a-century-old scientific knowledge.
Thus I submit the theory: True's had secret dealings with Free for decades to further the scientific progress of both countries.
It would make at least some sense, right? Free has the mines/equipment/resources, and True has the complete lack of restricting oversight and a surplus of cheap labour as a result of their puppet-king and indoctrinated citizens. Both governments benefit from looking the other way, from hiding where exactly they got such and such breakthrough from.
Give me the complex backroom deals and exchanges. Give me the morally corrupt individuals and greedy corporations. Give me the secrets and traitors and spies and triple-crossing and sabotage. Give me the scientists who cannot care less about morals or allegiances or laws and have instead devoted themselves to that shining, cold, distant star of progress.
And not to say that Free's government knew the threat of attack was real, or knew about the giant doomsday weapon that True had in its arsenal. But maybe, say, if a few nobles and officials were tucked up in the Safe Sites instead of being in Alma City on The Day of the Comet "just in case" those pesky rumours of attack were real, and if perhaps they'd been accompanied by most of the country's top scientists too... well, then it would be no real loss for them if their useless queen and her warmongering generals were taken out of the picture, if suddenly all that land down in the south was free from governmental oversight.
And of course, then, they would need to make a treaty with True, to keep the peace you understand, to stave off the threat of mutually assured destruction via Free's own weapons arsenal aimed at True. And if their collective scientific minds were able to collaborate more freely now, if resources and manpower and money were able to flow easier than ever before, well. That's just good business, isn't it?
It is found from southern Mexico to Belize, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil, as well as in Trinidad. The bats are nocturnal, sleeping during the day in an unusual formation: most of them line up, one after another, on a branch or wooden beam, nose to tail, in a straight row.
In the photo, the two bats on the lower left are carrying young.
Began deltora quest recently and was told to make my interpretations of some of the cast as I've gone through. Only through the first 2 so far. Hoping to make more detailed art later. But they really give you crumbs here, and I hear it doesn't stop
hey hey! @crabcrabcrabcrab is seeing if there's interest in a community project for Deltora Quest 👀

I'm just gauging interest here! I've been following and sometimes participating in MAPs for about 10 years now so I can definitely answer any questions yall have lmao
What is a MAP?
In this context, a MAP is a Multi Animator Project. Sometimes people will write it as MAProject to avoid confusion with other terms. A MAP is a collaborative video that artists make and edit together. MAP parts are usually a couple seconds long so the artists don't die trying to make something crazy
YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO ANIMATE TO PARTICIPATE!! There are many MAPs that rely more on illustration than movement!
Examples of short MAPs that I think are good reference for us/our skillset:
- The Valley [Warrior Cat PMV MAP] <- A fandom themed MAP example that uses no animation; just illustration, panning, and a clear color palette
- Machine Love [Anything MAP] <- an upbeat MAP that isn't themed (tho it mostly features teto lol) and shows a wide range of styles and colors. Note that a couple parts are line art / sketches / grayscale / multi-media etc.
If you want more examples, I highly recommend browsing youtube! The warrior cat community has been doing these especially well since FOREVER
What the MAP ends up looking like is completely based on your skill level and comfort!
- It's the participant's job to apply for a part and complete it (you can absolutely get help from others too if you need help with drawing / coloring / editing)
- It's the MAP host's job to facilitate everyone and edit the entire thing once everyone is done! (That's me unless someone objects)
Example of a MAP call that will begin the process. I'll be making something like this once we choose a song:
