The Karakol Valley is one of the few places in Altai where ethnic foundations are preserved and a record number of ancient burial mounds are concentrated.
Tourists rarely come here. They do not sell alcohol here, it is forbidden to swear and make noise, and the locals still observe ancient sacred traditions, worship mountains and fire. The Karakol Valley is located in Ongudai district. There are only three small villages here, where exclusively ethnic Altaians live.
