I worked in the emergency room for +/- 3 years. This makes me inarticulate with frustration and all I know how to do is tell you, if you ever find yourself in this situation, is one way to make your physician do their damn job 

This is something anybody and everybody Should know and use but to any black, hispanic and indigenous woman who reads this: If you present to an emergency room with chest pain, you absolutely should be getting, at a MINIMUM, an EKG and cardiac enzymes. Even if the doctor is pretty sure you aren’t having cardiac related chest pain, those are two tests they should be running before they send you home. Ideally, the doctor should have those orders pending as soon as you are done being triaged. 

If they don’t mention it, ask for them. If they say they’re not necessary, ask them to explain why they are not following chest pain protocol for your complaint. If that doesn’t budge them, tell them that you want the electronic medical record to state that you are are requesting an EKG and cardiac enzymes for chest pain, that they do not feel they are medically necessary tests, and for them to put in writing that they are not ordering these tests for you for XX reason. They might be a little bitch about it, but you will get the care you need, because man oh man if there is one thing doctors are scared of it is legal shit and also being wrong in front of their doctor friends. 

I wish it was a non issue, but if you ever find yourself in this situation someday you deserve to be able to get the care you need.
