Kunishige becoming a swordsmith because he knew that was his best option as a child and not because he really wanted to make deadly weapons.

Kunishige never becoming comfortable with that.

Kunishige's weapon being used to slaughter 200000 civilian lives, by the hands of his most trusted ally no less.

obviously Kunishige was never presented to be a perfect parent, but really contextualizing that he grew up with absolutely no good role models, and was already struggling with suicidality/depression (wishing he wasn't around)

and with what seems to be intrusive thoughts (deeply worried he's going to somehow hurt his friends, even though he clearly cares for them)

and that was BEFORE he lost his wife/most consistent emotional support person (since Chiaki seems to have been the best at making him feel like he Could Care about other people) AND had his fears about being a bad/violent person 'proved true' by his brother-in-law making him complicit in a horrific war crime (some thing Kuni clearly feels horribly guilty for give he essentially exiled himself and the Enchanted blades into seclusion where they couldn't hurt people)

all of that, and it's clear he still did his absolute best to be a better father than his ever was and succeeded. Chihiro knows without a doubt he's loved, and trusts his father enough to confide his worries and cry in front of him, and clearly wants to be like him because to his son, Kunshige has never been anything but a gentle and caring (if a little silly) person.
