Announcement

Hello, everyone! First of all, we want to thank everyone who’s submitted apps to LUME. All of your apps have been wonderful, and an absolute blast to read.

Secondly, some more unfortunate news. Due to issues affecting the mod team’s availability, as well as balancing concerns with our limited app number, we are unable to go forward with running Lucidity’s Merge. We’re deeply sorry to everyone for the short notice on this announcement, especially to everyone who’s worked so hard on characters for the game.

It’s been an incredibly difficult choice to make, but with the aforementioned issues we do not believe we can run the game to an acceptable standard. Thank you to everyone for all the support and interest you’ve shown, and we apologise that it ended like this.

rlly quick question that i forgot to ask but is it ok if we can take out the power role section if we aren't interested in it? or would it be better to answer "n/a" for it or something like that

If you're not interested in playing a power role then feel free to remove it, answer "N/A" for all the questions, or replace it with a funny image - whatever works for you.

Extensions Closing Tonight

Hey everyone! Just a reminder that extensions close tonight, in about 15 hours. As we’ve already said we’re not going to be too strict on that, especially considering most of the mod team will be asleep at that point - so if you get it in a couple hours after the deadline, we’re not going to deny you.

At what exact time do extensions close?

Extensions close at Midnight PST tomorrow (April 30th) - at the end of the day, not the start. Of course, we won't be too hard on this - as long as apps are submitted by Sunday morning, when the mods have woken up, we'll happily take them.

will the MKG be taking place 100% in the world of LUME?

Nope! The MKG will be taking place both within LUME and within the physical world - specifically in the hotel the characters are staying at. Your characters will be able to be roleplayed both in the physical world as themselves and in LUME as their avatars, as they will have the equipment needed to log in to the game.

does LUME have any amount of voice modulation or synthetic character voicing or something? i'm thinking of the way that .hack dealt with things, where we only ever hear voices fitting for the character's avatar regardless of what the player might be like (example: a freaky cultish creep with lofty ideals having a fittingly deep intimidating voice when in reality his player is a 10-year-old brat)

Short answer: Yes! Long answer: yes, but it's not your normal speaking voice that's being modulated. TVR taps directly into the electrical signals your brain sends to your body, and in doing so puts you in a state of slumber. When it comes to chatting online with your friends, what they hear (before any sort of modulation) is essentially the voice you think in - your mental voice. From there, however, there are several tools available - probably both first-party and third-party - to help alter it to suit any user's needs. Hope that helps!

Deadline Change

Hello everyone!

Due to the large number of extension requests we’ve received, we’ve decided to push the deadline back to April 23rd for everyone. In addition, we’ll be pushing the extension deadline to April 30th.

Those of you who have already applied for an extension will still have your extension counted, and will have until the 30th. Anyone who has not yet applied for an extension will have until the 23rd, but may still request an extension until the 30th.

In short; apps now close on the 23rd (just over a week from now), extensions now close on the 30th (just over 2 weeks from now). If you have already asked for an extension, you still have one.

We hope that gives you all enough time to work on your apps!

In regards to weapons, since the alchemy system will play a role, should we assume our hopefuls might not have access to their current LUME equipment?

Your hopefuls will, in fact, have access to an amount of their equipment in LUME. Your hopefuls will still have access to any equipment or items they had on themselves (wearing or in their inventory) when they arrive for the beta test. They will not have access to any external inventories, such as their homes, bank storage, or anything along those lines.

For the purpose of the beta test (and also the MKG), there will be certain restrictions. Weapons and armour will be brought to roughly the same power level, with some wiggle room - though special abilities and unique properties will still be intact. Some items that characters may be carrying may also be unusable, such as transport items, revival items, or items that would allow them to break out of the MKG.

As a side note, we're also ruling that your hopefuls can physically have anything in their personal belongings that they may have reasonably brought to the event. If you want to list anything notable they've brought with them then feel free, but we're not requiring a list.

help so two questions one titles right do they have to be ffxiv titles, can we just make them up, how's that work? and two, for the in-lume appearence can we just put in a description instead of a full blown ref because I can't find the right picrew for what i want haha

Titles do not need to be directly lifted from FFXIV - it's just a good point of reference and inspiration. Absolutely feel free to make up whatever you want for your title.

As for refs - we would appreciate some kind of visual aid alongside descriptions. If you're unable to find a satisfactory picrew or something similar, we can accept more loose forms of reference - our suggestion is to make an imgur album or similar of reference images for pieces of your characters appearance. For example, including images of articles of clothing, hairstyle, facial inspiration, and so on.

As an additional suggestion, try taking a look at HeroForge if no picrews are working out for you. It's designed to make tokens of fantasy characters, so it might suit your needs better than a picrew.

LUME does not is support NFTs, and neither does Butterfly Cave. Buuuuut NFTs definitely still exist within the setting, though they're not as big of a thing as they are in our present day - the "hype" has died down, so to speak. People still run the scam, though.

2 week reminder && Extension Requests

Hello everyone!

First of all, I’d like to give a 2 week reminder for our deadline, which is coming up on Saturday April 16th. But, if you’re not sure you’ll get your app done before then, we’re opening our Extension Requests form.

If you’re uncertain if your app will be done by the 16th, or if you just think you might need some more time, then please go ahead and fill out the following form. Doing so will give you until Saturday April 23rd to get your app done - so, a whole extra week.

Once you’ve submitted your Extension Request, we’ll be adding it to the Hopefuls page to help keep track of them. If you submit your Extension and don’t see it on the Hopefuls page within 24h, please try submitting again, sending an ask to the Tumblr, or contacting a mod.

holy moly did I find this group late but! are there any notable historical events that have taken place between here and 2045?

Other than the events described in the lore doc - the invention of TVR, the release of LUME, etc - we're leaving room for major historical events open.

Feel free to come up with any major historical events that make sense with what we've put out already, and once the game starts we'll work together on any modifications necessary to make things fit.

In addition, like in other MKGRPs, we'll be making a player-submitted lore doc before the game starts. That way you'll be able to make sure everyone knows about any important public events you've brought to the table.
