Scrooge McDuck and Webby Vanderquack
Their relationship has always interested me. From the time I watch the first few episodes of Ducktales 1987 to the episode where Scrooge was stuck with Webby as Black Heron kidnaps Mrs.Beakley in Ducktales 2017. I always wanted to draw them as a father-daughter/uncle-niece pair. When Father's Day came around I wanted to draw them but because of motivation, I didn't to lose the idea so for the past 2 days I have created something I'm very proud of. Not the short scene, I actually did that on the spot.
[ Ever since the night he lost his niece, Scrooge never seemed to bring himself to smile. His old partner, Bentina Beakley, arrived sometime by noon to address some personal matters with her life. Before her arrival they established an agreement to allow her to work for him as long as she kept "it" safe. He didn't know what "it" was but Bentina said that it wasn't going to be an issue. Trusting her, he allowed her to take "it" with her to stay in the manor as long as it didn't disrupt him. She arrived with her belongings and a blanket covering a small object. Scrooge wasn't interested in what she kept, so he didn't give it a second thought. She entered the lonesome manor,
"Hello Beakley. I must thank ye for coming in such an unprecedented time."
"Hello Scrooge," Beakley replied blatantly.
"Your quarters are down stairs by.." Scrooge spoke sternly to then take a pause. He remembered what the room beside her living area was supposed to be for. He shook his head,
"Well- I assume ye know. I want tea tomorrow morning 5 am sharp. That would be all."
As months went by Beakley always served him breakfast at exactly 5 am, she was never a minute late. Until one specific day. Scrooge was waiting for his tea to arrive when he heard a wail of a duckling. The wail echoed throughout the empty manor. A sound he never thought he was going to ever hear. Suddenly, curious about the commotion, he headed for Beakley's quarters. Bundled up in blankets and in Beakley's arms, was the tiniest duckling Scrooge has even seen. Beakley sighed as she watched the disturbed duckling continue to endlessly wail.
"Apologises Mr.Mcduck. She's normally not like this."
Beakley was clearly exhausted. Scrooge had no clue how long it's been since the duckling has hatched. He didn't even know the duckling was in the manor in the first place. Regardless, by the look of Beakley, it hasn't been too long since the duckling hatched.
"Give 'er to me. Let me try to calm the lass down."
Hesitantly, Beakley handed Scrooge the tiny duckling. As he rocked his arms side by side, the little duckling's eyes pierced opened. Her eyes were a lovely honey brown. She raised her arms and instead of a wail, she let out a giggle. Her small arms tried to reach for Scrooge's whiskers, but never quite reaching them. For once since Scrooge watched his nephew leave the manor, he felt warmth in his heart. Was this how it was going to feel to hold his own great nephews? A slight smile appeared on his bill.
"What's the wee lass' name?"
Scrooge glanced at Beakley as she cautiously watched him handle her granddaughter.
"Her name is Webbigail. My granddaughter, Webbigail Vanderquack." Beakley replied sharply. Scrooge nodded and gave his attention back to the now bubbly duckling,
Soon after that scene Scrooge offered to give Webby, HDL's room. I feel like Scrooge would keep his distance but why not write him meeting Webby for the first time? Personally, I believe that even though he doesn't speak with that much he still cares for her safety. He knows she's more than capable of protecting herself but it doesn't hurt to keep tabs on her. Also the image is what I believe another moment of Scrooge and Webby bonding. Webby tried her best to make her cheeks to look like whiskers to show Scrooge. Scrooge is glad she's happy, good for her.
Original concept (for father's day) :
