Crimson Spirit:
A strictly Darkwater mythos. She's also called "The Red Mother" or "Blood Light Spirit". She's a large anglerfish-adjacent creature with a long lure containing a single red light. It can be seen from anywhere, no matter the distance, and illuminates the Crimson Spirit's face only. She is said to lead fallen Darkwaters to the afterlife, usually only hatchlings though. Her light is a safe place for those who died to soon and are lost in the lightless abyss.
Older Darkwaters tend not to believe in her existence but still tell the story to their young.
Lightless Abyss:
The Lightless Abyss is a limbo of sorts for Lumosian species that live in the darker parts of the ocean. It's a black void of nothing with the only light being that produced by the Lumos themself. Spirits left here eventually fade away into nothing if they can't find their way to the afterlife or back to their bodies.
Curses:
Curses are an uncommon belief among Lumos, but the Jelly Lumos take it very seriously. They believe that anyone can cast a curse, especially other Jellys, and that curses usually cannot be broken. They attribute many of their disabilities or genetic mutations to curses upon the parents.
Nightmare Lumos:
The Nightmare Lumos get their names from their tendency to only appear in dreams. They're creatures of fear that are often thought to be the reason behind Lumos dying in their sleep. Those who don't die in their sleep describe an all black figure with no headress that has a sail sporting a red face (similar to a cobra sail) and a tail sporting a red smile. They're large and powerful and no matter where you go, they find you.
The origin of the Nightmare Lumos comes from that of the Vampirefish, an extinct variant of Lumos that was incredibly adaptive and was known to hunt and kill others and drink their blood. It's not known what killed them in the end, but they lived long enough to cement themselves as the boogeymen of Lumosian society.
Twin Tail:
Twin Tail is a mysterious deity that appears to the Lumos as an all white featureless creature. It's said to possess two tails, hence the name Twin Tail, and leads lost Lumos to a safe place. It appears only once for an individual and never for a group. It is also said to calm the waters around it, not a current or a predator will interrupt its guidance. The sightings of Twin Tail are incredibly rare but known enough throughout Lumosian societies to be well regarded.
Surface Monsters
The Draconix Lumos believe that boats are surface monsters, with deadly weapons and strange symbiotic organisms that live on top of them. Humans hunted them to near extinction, leaving them afraid of these perceived monsters.
Afterlife
Most Lumos believe in some sort of afterlife, though it differs among variants what that afterlife looks like. Some believe in multiple afterlives, others believe in only one afterlife.
The Pure Ones
A strictly Flarefish mythos, Pure Ones are a mutation that causes a Flarefish to always be glowing, making them a very powerful light. They are considered to be "Pure of Heart" because there is no darkness to cloud their light.
Magmafish, the Origin of Lumos. They live near hypothermal vents at the bottom of the ocean, particularly in trenches. The red spots on their bodies glow and produce a toxic gas to ward off predators.
