Hey, I was wondering if you know any book which has a melancholic character who is kind of lost and trying to find themselves, or any other kind of story that's contemplative with characters who don't speak a lot?
thank you
"Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage" by Haruki Murakami
"Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami
"The Stranger" by Albert Camus
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky
"The Secret History" by Donna Tartt
"Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro
"All the Lovers in the Night" by Mieko Kawakami
"A Little Life" by Hanya Yanagihara
"The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath
"Almond" by Sohn Won-Pyung
"Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky (hey! it fits the description)
Thank you for your message, dear!
However, do read the trigger warnings beforehand! Most of these books are emotionally heavy.
Have a nice day! 🌻
what type of flower are you
i got sunflowers, somehow it makes my heart hurt hearing it
i think a lot of people (especially those who haven’t read the books) are underestimating Hades
yes, he presents as the sassy queer uncle who’s done with his family’s drama, but he’s not “just some guy”
when his Helm is stolen, no one knows about it. he uses his own resources and orchestrates a plan to bring Percy to the underworld alive, all while managing an entire freaking kingdom
he doesn’t threaten war because he doesn’t have to and he knows it. unlike Zeus, he keeps a level head and thinks about the situation logically
think about Percy’s priorities throughout the show, look at what the flashbacks are teaching us about him and his relationship with others. think logically. this is a 12 year old kid who grew up with a single mom and no friends
his priority is his mom, it’s always been his mom and Hades knows that. Percy’s worst fear is losing his mother and Hades uses that against him
he takes Sally before Poseidon claims Percy because he has eyes everywhere. he already knew who Percy was and he already had a plan formed before Percy even set foot in camp
when he greets Percy and Grover he isn’t surprised, relieved, or agitated because he planned this. he knew that Percy would come to him whether by force or by his own choice (for my book readers, think about this in comparison to how Zeus reacts to the situation. Zeus comes off as desperate and angry, whereas Hades is at ease. annoyed, sure, but never panicked)
when he offers them pomegranate juice it’s in the guise of politeness and humour but it has an underlying meaning. Percy knows the stories about Hades and Hades knows that he knows. the pomegranate juice is a reminder, it’s Hades demonstrating his power without outright threatening Percy. it’s him going “I can make something as small as a pomegranate seed into a weapon” it’s him asserting his dominance and control over the situation
he leads them to a seating area clearly made for their arrival. another reminder that he knew they were coming and Sally stands, frozen in the middle of it as a reminder of what they have to lose
when he learns that it’s Kronos behind the robberies he immediately offers sanctuary to Percy, Grover, and his mom. Kronos, the king of titans, the father of all Gods, and a being who could once tear the world in two with the snap of his fingers, wants Percy, and Hades offers to protect him because he’s that powerful
so yes, Hades makes dad jokes and he talks in a way you wouldn’t expect an all-powerful being to talk, but he isn’t “just some guy”
he’s powerful, he knows it, and he shows just enough of that power to absolutely terrify Percy
something something percy jackson’s unconditional love that stems from his relationship with his mother and permeates through every single association he has with those close to him — grover, annabeth and now his dad after he helps him one single time — compared to annabeth’s understanding of love that stems from the fact that she’s only valuable/loved until she outlives her purpose or messes up in some way.
something something how in only a few days in each other’s presence, annabeth has caught a glimpse of the way percy views love and relationships and wants it so badly to apply to her
can confirm, at the very first percabeth hug i was contorted on my couch yelling “NOBODY MOVE NOBODY BREATHE HISTORY IS HAPPENING” while my poor parents stared, slightly horrified at the effect that this tv show has on their 20 year old daughter
i texted my sister like 200 messages in a row and this was her reaction as well, as if its a surprise that her 20 year old sister to do this
can we talk about walker’s ability to act with his eyes…they’re so expressive in every scene and perfectly capture the anger, fear, and despair percy feels throughout tlt, but most importantly they exude love and longing in a way that’s practically tangible when looking at sally, grover, and especially annabeth in some of the finale scenes…rent was DUE
thats my boy yall, my child my son I ADORE THIS LITTLE DUDE
“And fate has revealed to him his true path” Looks directly at Annabeth.
I love them
im sobbing
Full faith in Uncle Rick and his vision🫡
trust uncle rick dudes, he knows best and obviously has immense talent in his pen game, the guys pen is deadlier than percys pen
No one talks enough about the fact Annabeth first heard the Great Prophecy when she was twelve. It scared her so much she had nightmares about it.
She knew (or at least believed) from the moment Percy was claimed he wouldn't make it past his 16th birthday.
Imagine Annabeth telling herself he's a bit of an idiot anyway, and a son of Poseidon, you can't really like him?
Imagine Annabeth finally accepting he's a friend, only to have nightmares of Thalia's death... except when she looks down it's Percy on the ground.
Imagine Annabeth hating that spark of hope she felt when Thalia came back, older, but not old enough, because she's going to lose one of her best friends and she's just got Thalia back.
Imagine Annabeth finally accepting that if she's going to lose Percy she shouldn't waste time, and asking him to the cinema, only to see him with another girl and realising she was too late.
Imagine Annabeth speaking at his funeral, looking across the crowd and seeing him standing there, and realising that it means she'll have to do this all over again.
Imagine Annabeth, who wants to become an architect so she can build something permanent, knowing that whatever she has with Percy can only end all too soon.
well rip my heart out and stomp right on it why dont ya
i get it, a lot of book similarities with the characters are important, a lot of things read in the book are things we wished to see on screen.
BUT. let me remind you that rick hand picked these characters out, that's his percy, his annabeth, his grover. he is fully in the whole production proses of this show.
let the guy do his magic, the series was great and will continue to be great because the author himself is pouring everything into it. trust. rick.
i don't think some of y'all understand how significant it is that annabeth chase, the leading lady in an IP/brand as big as percy jackson, is played by a black girl. she is not some sidekick or comic relief. THEE annabeth chase, one of the wisest, intelligent, brave demigods and love of percy jackson's life, is played by a BLACK GIRL!!
but you're so hateful and caught up with book inaccuracies and changes that you can't even offer a sliver of hope for things to improve in continuing seasons, and instead immediately resort to wishing the show gets cancelled because they didn't do that specific thing in that specific scene in the books. makes me think there might be another underlying reason as to why you want it to fail.
and before someone starts, this isn't to say you can't have criticism, but if you really love percy jackson, why wouldn't your hope be for things to get better?
"i hope this show gets cancelled" yeah girl fuck you
“this is a bad idea. stand up.” “…i can’t” “percy, stand up, i mean it!” “it’s okay. i’m okay. i’m okay. i’m okay. i’m-“ the tears in HIS eyes, the tears in HER eyes, the tears in MY EYES?!!??!!?
me, a 20 year old, sobbing at percabeth, two 12 year olds
my mom walking in utterly confused and i just wave her off bc how the hell do u explain it

gotta give it to the percy jackson fans, you really do love your main character. for other franchises, fans usually place the #1 blorbo title on a specific side character. but in percy jackson you really love your percy jackson
he's my baby yall, i adopted him
The best part of the percy jackson books is that from percy's perspective hes just an easygoing funny cool guy who seems pretty harmless but the moment you see him from someone elses pov hes terrifying. Just a crazy good fighter, a force of nature killing machine, literally gets mistaken for a god in disguise. But he doesnt see that side of himself at all because hes too busy arguing with authority figures and respecting women. I love him
