does anyone have silly little fr superstitions? like for you not your dragons?

for example i’ve got it in my head that if i don’t eliminate a monster in the coliseum they won’t drop what i need

or if a boss monster dodges two of my attacks one after the other i have a big drop coming

If you kill the enemy you need an item from last, it has a higher chance of dropping the item.

If you leave stuff in your vault for too long it despawns.

If you bond with all your familiars too quickly you get banned.

If the place I’m scavenging from has an in-character reason for one of my dragons to be there, I’ll be more likely to find an egg

Similarly, if I’m sick, I have to scavenge in plague so I have a higher chance of finding things (this one coincidentally works)

when fest grinding, if it doesn’t severely disadvantage you (like in the really high coli venues where every turn counts) and you encounter 1 festival element enemy in a pack, you have to elim the others first and if possible scratch the last one to death, otherwise just elim it. either way, you have to save the enemy you’re after for last.

My mom had exactly my fashion sense except she was two point five degrees butcher and habitually took over government buildings. My other mom was about six degrees butcher than that, and SHE had a motorcycle. Both of them have been charged with felony arson. I’m the prep member of my family and there’s nothing I can do about it.

but his arrival on Sornieth wasn’t a peaceful one.

The newly-formed celestial crash-landed within the borders of an unsuspecting clan, who mistook his arrival as an attack and responded in turn.

Already injured from his landing, the new imperial was further wounded by arrows and bolts of magic alike as he was driven away from the clan boundaries.

He hid away, recovered, and continued on as a violent and fearful being, unwilling to listen to his distant mother’s advice - as it was clear already she was wrong about those who shared their world.

As for what happens next, that’s up to whoever takes him in!

do you guys have any not-quite-canon/canon-adjacent Sornieth geography headcanons? 

for example, I imagine the Sunbeam Ruins territory to be mostly savanna with very Egyptian Nile-esque river deltas with some more temperate areas near Shadow/the north rather than the… yellow pine tree zone? it’s depicted as on site. It makes sense to me because Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa are very bright and Egypt is full of ruins, both Egyptian and Greek. Alexandria in particular had its LIGHTHOUSE (the Beacon) and its GIANT LIBRARY. It also makes for a cool aesthetic in my mind of the Hewn City as a necropolis on the “wrong side of the river.” 

Another one of mine is that, although I haven’t thought much in detail about most of them, I think that each territory has a “capital city” in/near either its Ancient or Venerable lair area. (For example, I imagine there being a capital city near the Beacon in Light, or around the Behemoth in Nature. Wind’s Cloudsong is already a city so that is perfect, but Ice’s capital city is probably at the base of the Cloudscrape Crags so that the Fortress of Ends can still be an isolated frozen hell jail.) Flight Rising dragons having metropolitan areas like Dinotopia just really makes sense to me, especially since it’s canon that the dragons have access to late 19th century technology.

Anyway, I am working on a project right now that involves Sornieth geography so it’d be good to know about some common headcanons!! Even the new map that FR will be implementing soon is rather cartoony so there’s a lot of room to imagine in. What are some of your ideas?

THE ARCANIST

The arcane serpent is the youngest of the eleven gods, and is characterized by his curiosity and desire for knowledge. He was so determined to learn that he climbed the World Pillar for days, without the use of flight or magic, for the sake of reaching its high peak and observing all he could from atop the colossal spire. The Elemental Touched

So everyone knows about “Shade Touched” dragons. I have a few myself. GREAT excuse for fucked up shit to happen

Except the Shade really are like… nonentities at this point. The Shade are a distant enemy the dragon gods faced many ages ago and even though the Arcanist called the Shade back to Sorienth they’ve kinda been, not really around. Or they take the shape of weak monsters you fight in the coli (not all monsters. Mainly the non beastclan ones).

Meanwhile the Elements are much more abundant and powerful and a force in the world.

We all know about the Emperors. Dark dragon creations from the Sunbeam Ruins. They are, basically, Light Touched dragons. And my fave horror terror device: the Hewn City, where all sorts of unspeakable and unknowable things call home to play.

So it got me thinking. If a dragon can be tainted by the Shade could they… become consumed by their own element? Or maybe another element? What’s a dragon consumed by Ice look like, an Ice Touched dragon who keeps a grand hoard in an ancient cave and is responsible for year long ice storms. Or Water Touched dragons in the Sea or the waters around the continent that create powerful maelstroms that suck down anything that comes across them. Shadow dragons who become so Touched that they become more shadow and less dragon. A Wind Touched dragon that doesn’t sleep, they just stay awake forever to see everything, to talk to everyone, who can outpace a Snapper in terms of insomnia.

The idea that dragons are susceptible to their own element is an interesting idea. They are born in their element and then become so entrenched in the ‘dark’ side of their element that they become dark themselves. This reveals itself in different ways for each dragon and species and element.

And then of course elements can also corrupt other elements. Like a Fire dragon consumed by Lightning magic. The war inside them on how to make would cause them to birth odd golem abominations. Or Arcane twisting everything it touches, bending reality and reshaping an element into something else. A Nature dragon corrupted by Arcane would be a nightmare. Normally flowers would bloom and foliage grow unchecked from a Nature Touched dragon, and then corrupted by Arcane and the element of life is added by creation and life spontaneously appears around them. Things burst into life and around them they are a god. But where they’ve been the landscape has become twisted and destroyed as it sucks life up around it to power itself.

A Water consumed Fire dragon. They don’t breathe fire or shoot water from their mouth. Instead they belch super hot steam or noxious smoke. Their prophetic abilities appear as pyromancy and they find the future in pools of lava.

And of course they don’t have to be destructive. Just… strange. Water Touched dragons that can see the future in each drop of water in the rain. Fire dragons that have mouths that drip lava instead of fire. Plague dragons who can’t become sick, and do not pass on any diseases but are rather a grand petri dish that collects the world’s sickness and cures them in their own body. Lightning dragons who eat sand and breathe glass.

So. Shade Touched dragons: hella cool. Element Touched dragons: metal as all fuck.
