so glad im not 14 and edgy. the word “wiener” or calling someone a “beslobbering, fly-bitten hedgepig” is ten thousand times funnier than slurs
any adolescent who laughs at random humour like Minecraft memes or dumb TikToks or senselessly surreal images has humour ten thousand times more advanced than a mouth-breathing 20 something yr old who says racist things and uses autism as an insult, and you can take that to the bank
I just wanna be attractive and covered in tattoos
I think very deeply 💭🚫💡
People who tell you that cacti or succulents are “beginner plants” are full of shit.
If you want to start taking care of plants, you need a plant to water pretty often. Something like a spider plant or an ivy or a dieffenbachia or most other cheap houseplants will get you in the habit of checking your plants every morning to see if they need something. This will get you ready for plants that require regular trimming (like basil), repotting (orchids), fertilizing (vegetable plants), or any other frequent care. (Plus they’re easy to propagate so you can make multiple from one in case you mess up and kill the originals).
With a plant that needs little attention, you’re either going to over-water it from the start (convincing you that you’re incapable of caring for even the “easiest” plant), or you’re going to basically forget about it. A plant that thrives being left alone in a forgotten windowsill of your house isn’t going to teach you much of anything. It’s just going to be that hobby you started and never got very far with.
YES THIS.
I always recommend people start with something that requires checking but is also not easy to kill. Like pothos! This plant will communicate its needs VERY well, so you’ll get in the habit of checking/watering/trimming it. If you make a mistake, it bounces back and can be revived easily!
Plus, it grows quickly. People who are just starting out with plants need some encouragement, and a plant that can bounce back quickly from mistakes and grow quickly when being cared for will make them feel good! It’s rewarding! It makes you want to try more plants! Cacti and succulents, on the other hand, grow so painfully slow that beginners don’t get to really see the results of their efforts before they lose interest and/or accidentally kill it.
Pothos is cheap, beautiful, hardy, communicative, and easy to propagate. Plus, let’s be honest, everyone wants the whole “vines all over my walls” urban jungle look, and pothos can get you that.
There’s no such thing as a “beginner plant” tbh like I can and will kill peace lilies if given a chance. I have half killed two snake plants. I’ve rotted out a pothos and murdered a Dracaena. Many succulents have died in my care. A plant to begin with is one you’re passionate about and want to do right by. Like my first real houseplant that I chose on my own? A rex Begonia. It died lol but I did me best
I agree with this to an extent. I started keeping plants five years ago with an aloe that I somehow managed not to kill, despite killing so many succulents in the first year or so. I got my first pothos only a year ago (now split twice over and propagated many babies) and I wish I’d had one from the start. Its always the first plant I recommend to people who ask about plants. However, I loved that aloe and didn’t kill it (finally started over from a baby and a new second plant maybe a year ago as it had gotten too leggy and floppy) because at the time I was into homemade herbal cosmetics, for which I needed the aloe gel. The thing people don’t realize with plant keeping is that no one is good at it right away and so much of it is trial and error no matter what care guides or internet advice tells you. You’re going to kill plants before you get it right…its just how it goes.
You know what I wanna change my comment and just say: TRUE! You ARE definitely going to kill plants when you start out either way, and you SHOULD definitely pick your first plant as something that you’re passionate about! Everyone kept telling me to start with snake plants but honestly? They’re kinda boring? Idk that I would have been as passionate about plants if I had started with what everyone was recommending as a “starter plant!”
Also, when I recommend plants to people, I ask that what their environment is like (dark, bright, warm, etc) what they think they can commit to, and also what aesthetic they’re going for, then give a few options based on that! So although pothos is the example I used, there’s a perfect plant out there for everyone! that they will kill a few times before getting it right
