Episode 1
Here we go again with Netflix subs not getting it quite right. Hae-Hyo addresses his mother as āMadame/Ladyā while he addresses the housekeeper? (Hye-Junās mother) as āMotherā not āmaāam.ā
He also uses jondaemal (formal speech) with Hye-Junās mother, but he uses banmal with his own mother. So itās interesting that thereās this false closeness with his mother. He does address his mother as āmomā in the next scene, but itās interesting to point out the difference.
Iām curious to see the comparisons of these mother-son relationships between the male leads.
Reblogging for @mmerrakii to add some information about jondaemal (formal) and banmal (informal/casual).
In the Korean language, there are what I call ātiersā of grammar and vocabulary that you use based on your relation with the other person. Jondaemal is used for people who are older than you, people you just met, people in higher social rank than yourself, etc. Banmal is used with your friends, peers, classmates, and even your parents (if theyāre cool Korean parents like mine).
Now, a typical situation you may encounter is when you first meet someone (could be people around your age), so you have to figure out whoās older and whoās younger to figure out the pecking order. Usually, the older people will choose to use banmal to the younger people while the younger people will encourage the older people to use banmal.
This is where nuance comes in. If someone chooses NOT to use banmal with you and there isnāt any why they shouldnāt, it can come across as rude and that you donāt want to get to know them/get closer. On the other hand, if a younger/lower ranking person uses banmal immediately without getting permission, it can be seen as being rude.
It also really depends on the people youāre dealing with. Some families are very formal while other families arenāt. I also joke with my mom and call her āahjummaā and use banmal with her for fun. Now, you can see with Hae Hyo that he seems very close with his mom on the surface (he jokes with her, uses banmal) BUT clearly, heās tired of her and thereās no way heās completely oblivious to what his mom using her connections to help him. Itās a really interesting contrast to Hye Jun who knows full well how hard his mom has to work to support the family, support his dreams.
I think itās time to rewatch Crash Landing On You.
This is so relatable, Iām dying.
LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK
@brainless-out look itās on my dash again!

Extraordinary Couples (Favorite Side Couple):
Joo Won-Suk & Choi Ho-Dol of āLove With Flawsā
The actor Cha In Ha left us too soon, but he also left us a gift: this beautiful love story.
I LOVE THIS GRANDPA.
I know plot-wise, these two are going to have a fight or two, but I hope theyāre not dragged out and are resolved quickly. Please, I just want some wholesome friendship/bromance.
This kdrama is making me want to cry over a DAMN DOOR. The fact that Hye-Junās father is making a new door for the brother whose door is already in good condition. Not to mention, itās the room Hye-Jun shares with his grandfather so theyāre both like outcasts/disappointments in their family. Itās one thing for Hye-Jun to be the underdog of the story in his pursuit in the acting world, but to be an underdog in your own family is rough.
Gyeong-Junās Door:
Hye-Junās (and also Grandpaās) Door:
OMG. I didnāt recognize the grandpaās actor until this screenshot. The actor, Han Jin Hee, is usually playing the āstrict, angry rich dadā in most Korean dramas that Iāve seen him in....to see him play a grandfather makes me feel so old.
But Iām glad heās playing a soft, supportive grandpa character. T_T

The fact that my usual order is Italian BMT, but thereās no Park Bo Gum making my sandwich. T_T
I am SO EXCITED for this new Korean drama with Lee Dong Wook. I love their bantering already. Canāt wait!!!
English translation (has some mistakes but this is the gist):
What is your name?
Lee Yeon
Age?
36
How much have you aged? (Basically she's asking in a different way to trick him)
One thousand, six hundredāno comment.
How many tails do you have?
9ā why would a human have tails? No comment
It must be hard to take care of them, right?
Yes, shampoo and conditioner are (beep beep) and the treatmentāno comment
Whatās your favorite food? Liver? (The word "gan" can mean liver, which is what a gumiho eats, OR it can also mean seasoning/flavor. Again she's trying to trick him.)
These days, who would pick liver/flavor? Mint chocolate Why do you like mint chocolate? Sensual, with its fresh color and the refreshing and sweet harmony in your mouth is the ideal that I like. I absolutely love mint chocolate.
Last question, what are you doing in this place?
Iām looking for someone, just one person.
Weāre finished with the interview.
I also have a question. What kind of person are you looking for?
Youāre asking the wrong question. The one Iām looking for isnāt human. And it looks like I found him.
I am SO EXCITED for this new Korean drama with Lee Dong Wook. I love their bantering already. Canāt wait!!!
To be young, gifted and black, we all know what itās like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured, yet you are young, gifted and black.
We know what itās like to be told thereās not a screen for you to be featured on, a stage for you to be featured on. We know what itās like to be the tail and not the head. We know what itās like to be beneath and not above. And that is what we went to work with every day because we knew Ā ā not that we would be around during award season or that it would make a billion dollars, but we knew we had something special that we wanted to give the world. That we could be full human beings in the roles that we were playing, that we could create a world that exemplified a world that we wanted to see.
