Haruto almost wanted to laugh. That he had spent his entire life trying to be something worthy of God, only to know hear someone say what made him worthy was knowing himself. Only after losing himself had he found this out. He was a shadow standing in the place of a person, and now of all times he needed to know who he was?

But... It made sense. The best servants were those assured in what they did, and Haruto was just wandering. He needed a place to collect himself, become something fully formed. For now, at least, he supposed he needed to become his own god. To serve his own soul until it was something complete.

Would he be able to give himself up after that? Could he bear allowing another entity to come inside his core and eat away at his soul? Maybe that was the point. He wasn't made to serve anyone but himself. That... Tasted awful on his tongue. He hated that idea. The best masters served their peons just as much as themselves.

But if this was the path he was meant to travel, then so be it. At least it was some sort of answer. At least it wasn't lost confusion. It was more than anyone else had ever given him.

To make these his wings. To be his own angel...

"Very well," he finally replied, reaching up to adjust his tie. "Very well. I will... Seek to serve myself. Figure out what it is I need. Isolate and meditate and find what it is I'm missing. Then... Once I provide for myself I can finally be whole again..."

he sits forward and moves to a standing position, stretching his arms above his head. what the seer knew, and the angel was underestimating was the journey being a difficult one but abe would find it satisfying in the end. maybe by the time he's found who he needs to be for himself, he'd grant his own wish.

the fact he didn’t immediately jump on the latter question and that he actually regretted his actions was a promising sign. it proved that there was something in terms of growth and that while he might still ache for being something that he knew was harming him, consciously he knew it was wrong. 

❝     maybe that is enough? the fact you know you wouldnt knowingly cross that line again and you are actively trying to be a better person than who you were…. that is a start.     ❞        he hums softly, his legs slowing their swinging slightly and he relaxes his posture a little.       ❝     it is difficult, but….. i believe that you can do it. we can’t fix the past, but you can make sure that the future is something better than it could be. you aren’t truly trapped by what you define yourself by right now.      ❞

abe might not believe that, but he’d see it one day.

“I’m trying to believe that…” His voice fell to a near whisper, and he pulled his wings in close again. “I’m trying. I’m fighting this… There is so little of me left now, but I know it’s not the end. I wish I had a better answer than this… Aimless wandering. But I don’t know. I don’t know where to go from here. I just keep looking. I keep waiting and hoping to find something to give me purpose again. That’s all I can do. Even if I find another selfish god… I hope I can serve him well… Just as long as I have a reason to keep going.”

❝     theres more to you than you think there is. you just don’t see it right now.      ❞        he says this matter of fact, offering him a smile even if abe wasn’t looking at him. based on how he was protecting himself, the angel much be very conflicted. it was understandable. 

❝     you need to figure out who you are. learn you before anything else. any god can can make a vessel, but it takes someone really special and secure in themselves to really catch a gods eye. maybe start there first. i think you’ll find better things in your future if you worry about your needs versus your wants right now. what you want is divininty, but what you need is to learn yourself and grow so you can be something worth a gods attention.       ❞

Haruto nodded, again without any hesitation. “Yes, I regret it. No, I wouldn’t repeat those actions. Hurting those people the way that I did… That is the biggest regret of my life. I would give anything to go back in time and change it. I would never make that decision a second time, never. But… It isn’t as if I can actually do that. I don’t have that kind of power, and even lingering on the idea of it would do a disservice to those people that I’ve hurt. I have to move on and try to do something, try to become something more from this. What I was doing was selfish anyway. No matter how much I wanted to think I could make a difference, I should have know the extent of my own abilities. I would never attempt that again. Will never attempt it. I just want to make sure I do the job I have now well enough. Even if… It doesn’t hold anything for me. I can’t abandon these people.”

Though it wasn’t like he didn’t dream from time to time. How he wished he could, to just bend the hands of time and alter things as he needed to. He would have stayed out of Shibuya. He would have kept his nose down and just done the work he was stuck doing for the rest of his existence. He would never try to gain another promotion knowing that he would never be accepted. He’d be happy with the work he had, the hivemind in his ear, the place he’d secured in the Higher Plane. He’d never move from that spot, even if it meant giving up growth. Because at least then he wouldn’t be hurting like this.
