Writing Prompt #1128
“Pride is a luxury afforded to those with plenty to lose, my dear prince,” she gave a wicked smile, the tip of her blade hovering just above his throat. “You’d be better to do without it.”
He spat at her. “Go on and do it already. You can slay me, but another will take my place, you’ll find yourself at the other end of this blade.”
So many things I want to do with this and not a single minute to write any of it... i cri ;-;
Writer’s Block
Backspace. Backspace. Copy all. Delete.
I sighed dramatically as I got out of my chair and immediately slunk onto the floor, curling in a ball.
“…Do I ask, or?” Tina glanced at me from behind her book.
“I don’t know what to write. I’m stuck. I can’t do it. I’m a terrible writer. Writing sucks. It’s stupid. I hate writing.” I half-whined half-muttered as I buried my face in the carpet.
“You said that three days ago, too.”
“And I haven’t written anything in FIVE!” I complained.
“Whiny baby.” Tina closed her book and set it to the side.
“Yeah yeah, what are you going to do about it?” I grumbled.
“Give you some ideas.” She winked at me.
“What do you mean ide–”
I blinked. She wasn’t there anymore. She was – I was, staring at the ceiling. From the floor? I slowly sat up and looked around.
“Hi there!” Tina grinned. “Awake?”
“I–Awake? I’ve been awa– What did you do.” I asked flatly.
“I don’t know, you’re the one who took notes.” Tina shrugged and picked at her fingertips. Damn it. I knew she was doing it on purpose. My left hand hit an object on the floor. A notepad?
“You’re adorable, by the way. I said I was going to give you ideas and you immediately got a notepad to try and document it.”
“Blue…tickle…tissues?” I read out loud in confusion. “What the hell did you do to me?”
“Simple! Wanna see it again?” Tina grinned. Shit no, not that grin.
“NO! No no wait at least let m–”
I blinked. I was staring at the ceiling. How did that happen?
“Awake?”
“Tina?” I groaned. I was lying on something. I reached around and dug out a notepad from under my back.
“Blue, tickle, tissues.” An arrow to the next page. I flipped the page. “Stop erasing! I can’t remember the ideas if…” I squinted. The next few words were written terribly, barely legible, the ink trailing off the bottom of the page. “…if you…keep…eras?” My eyes widened. I shot straight back up into a sitting position. “Wait, you keep erasing my–” Tina snapped her fingers.
“…I’ll…” I blinked and my voice faltered mid-sentence.
“You’ll?” Tina glanced inquisitively from the couch, her book on her lap.
What was I saying again? I swiveled in my chair and turned to face her. “I said…maybe I’ll write about…a girl who has writer’s block because she literally can’t remember ideas!” I grinned. “Meta stories! People love meta stories!”
“You’re so smart, dear.” Tina idly hummed.
“Yessssssss meta stories. YESSSSS. I am an awesome writer. I’m great at this. This is awesome.” I smiled to myself as I typed away.
As a writer… umf
This is so cute. And completely along the lines of something I do with @submissivedoll84
Um, I’ll take yes please for all the thoughts in my mind
i’ve been doing my homework on how to break into a writing career and honestly. there’s a Lot that i didn’t know about thats critical to a writing career in this day and age, and on the one hand, its understandable because we’re experiencing a massive cultural shift, but on the other hand, writers who do not have formal training in school or don’t have the connections to learn more via social osmosis end up extremely out of loop and working at a disadvantage.
like, i didnt know about twitter pitch parties!! i didnt know about literary agents and publishers tweeting their manuscript wishlist, in hopes that some poor soul out there has written the book they really want to read and publish!! this isnt some shit you learn about in school! you really need to know the ins and outs of the writing community to be successful!
for anyone interested, here’s what i’ve learned so far in my quest for more writing knowledge:
1. Writer’s Market 2019 is a great place to start– it gives you a list of magazines and journals that you can send your work to depending on the genre as well as lists a shit ton of literary agents that specify what genres they represent, how you can get in contact with them and how they accept query letters. this is a book that updates every year and tbh i only bought it this year so i dont know how critical it is to have an updated version
2. do your research. mostly on literary agents because if you listed on your site that you like to represent fluffy YA novels and some asshole sends you a 80k manuscript about like…gritty viking culture, you will be severely pissed off. always go in finding someone who you know will actually like your work because they’re the ones who will try to advocate for you in getting published.
3. learn how to write a query letter. there are slightly varying formulas to how you can write an effective query letter. you’re also going to want to get feedback on your query letter because its the first thing the literary agent will read and based on how well you do it, it could be the difference between them rejecting you outright and giving your manuscript a quick read
4. unfortunately, you’re gonna want to get a twitter. Twitter is where a lot of literary agents are nowadays, and they host things like twitter pitch parties, where you pitch your manuscript in a few sentences and hashtag it with #Pitmad #Pitdark, some version of pit. a lot of literary agents and publishers will ALSO post their manuscript wishlists, which is just the kind of books they’d like to represent/publish, and they hashtag this with #MSWL (it is NOT for writers to use, only for agents/publishers)
5. connect with other writers, literary agents, publishers at book events. you will absolutely need the connections if you want to get ahead as a writer. thats just kind of the state of the world.
Important info is important -.-

20 lessons to remember in 2020
1. If the people you thought you could count on, disappoint you and aren’t there for you through the good and bad, through the easy and hard times, you can say goodbye. Let them leave. Other people will show up.
2. Not everything is how it seems, you never see the full picture. Keep that in mind before judging, because most people don’t share the pain they go through.
3. You might have built walls to protect yourself, but they can also trap you. Don’t let them keep you from being vulnerable. There is value in being able to be hurt.
4. Being human means breaking, breaking over and over again. I don’t really know if it ever ends.
5. When you do break, when you fall apart, let others catch you. Don’t be afraid to trust others. You never have to be alone in your suffering.
6. Sometimes you will cry alone in your car. I’m sorry.
7. Not everyone will like you. It’s hard to accept but remember that you matter whether or not they like you. Don’t let them determine your worth, your happiness.
8. Happiness is not the goal of life. You can pursue it, and never find it. Pursue a good life. A hard life. One where you make the right decisions, despite the pain you will go through. Happiness will come as a byproduct of a life well lived.
9. A furry friend really can make a difference. They can make hard times just a little bit easier.
10. Laugh. Tell jokes. Be silly. It is one of the best types of medicine. Sometimes the choice is to cry, or to laugh. Laugh.
11. Stay out late. Be spontaneous. Make memories. Soon the people you made memories with, will leave. But memories are there to stay.
12. Wake up early. Thirty minutes of quiet in the morning is so worth it. The silence as the sun rises can change what state your heart is in. It can go from pain and grief to simple gratitude. Wake up early.
13. Be honest. No one respects a liar. No one trusts a liar.
14. Sometimes you will hurt the people you love the most. Sometimes they will hurt you. But keep giving second chances. Everyone fails.
15. Love. Be loving to whoever you see. You never know how much someone needs it.
16. Walk. Run. Move. Somedays, the only way to get out of your head is to go outside. Try it.
17. Don’t hide from the pain. You can grieve. Don’t forget to ask for help when you need it. Most people will want to.
18. Call the important people. Talk for hours, listen, connect. Don’t lose touch with them.
19. Sometimes thinking about the past feels unbearable. It fils you with pain. It hurts. Remember the past, try to heal, and then think of the future. Keep going. Keep doing the best you can. That’s all anyone asks.
20. This isn’t forever.
Maybe not true for all circumstances, but full of facts none the less.
