It’s still Mer-May, so... here’s Red, again. This time as some kind of deep sea leviathan.

One of my favorite headcanons is that Red and Purple were cloned/engineered from the same ‘base’ and the Control Brains in the smeetery just added different additional genes into the mix to provide more genetic diversity. This is why they look so similar; they are produced from the same ‘model.’

They also go through ‘vivid’ and ‘dull’ seasons where their skin patterns become bright and distinct, then cycle into dull and faded. It’s a leftover vestige of an ancient breeding cycle that is now defunct and inactive, with only the periodic changes in pigmentation left behind.
