my unpopular opinion #2: I hate when people are like “torvi/ubbe relationship is just like lagertha & ragnar back in season one!!!” Sis, in which part is it the same? One relationship was complex and developed throughout the seasons and another was so simple they were chucked in a scene together with no implications there was something going on in the beginning.

I know some a yall on here big weird and don’t want any women to go near your precious ivar but I’m glad they gave him someone –however since legiterately all of his motivation comes from being impotent/seeing himself as weaker, it would be cool if the woman they decide to write into the story for him was sort of like ragnar and would help him get over those things and kinda let go of the anger and need to conquer everyone all the time – so im not super happy that they’re writing in someone who is trying to emotionally damage him further, maybe that’ll be interesting but like…..can i please get a female character who is kind without that being seen as a weakness????

i think they did this really well with lagertha, b/c most of the men and also lagertha are shown as like really physically strong people who do what needs to be done and are ruthless in battle, but for ragnar’s sons/ragnar/lagertha there’s a sort of calmness/kindness to them to where you can see them become disillusioned with war, they have softer sides to them but for some reason the only woman they allowed to be this dimensional was lagertha and like half of torvi??

Aslaug? strong warrior™ porunn? strong warrior™ astrid? strong warrior™  yidu? fetishization™ margarethe? manipulative/power hungry™ freydis? manipulative/power hungry™ 

like do the vikings writers know that women don’t need to conform to what men define as strong in order to be considered strong? and strong women either physically or emotionally are not necessarily strong characters, freydis would’ve been such a cool opportunity for writing a different and more dimensional woman for this show but uhhhhhh i think they’re just gonna stick to what they know
