in the graphic novel, nothing is as touching as the part where finch breaks down and apologizes to the poc and queer people he never did anything to save, how their existence only ever made the world brighter and kinder and more beautiful and nazis killed them for no reason. “did they know i emphasized with them?” he asks, referring to when he used to be in the police lineups at pride parades, “did they ever look at me and see that beyond the shield and the uniform was a man who felt with them?” but of course they didn’t know because he never stood up for them
