but honestly? i’m not surprised one bit. percy was FORCED to go to school his whole life. it was isolating and traumatic. he was constantly bullied and his teachers made him feel stupid. plus weird things were always happening and no one believed him, so he was always being gaslit. and his ADHD and dyslexia were never once handled well. how could he possibly have done well?

now he’s in college, by CHOICE. he worked hard to be there. he’s determined to do well. and when percy is determined, there is nothing he can’t do. he is studying something he CHOSE to study. something he’s actually interested in. he’s surrounded by people who like and respect him, and can relate to him. he’s got a supportive girlfriend and best friends all around. plus everyone has ADHD and dyslexia, so he’s not isolated or singled out. not only is he getting the accommodations he needs, but everyone else needs the same thing.

so let’s all say it together!

Everyone is talking about how shocking it was that the Apollo cabin left the battle of Manhattan with only 3 survivors, but it’s so much worse than most people realize. Camp Half-Blood starts with somewhere around 100 campers in “The Lightning Thief." They start the battle of Manhattan with only 40 campers. Which, not great, but they were missing the Ares cabin, so that doesn’t seem so bad, right? THEY ONLY HAVE 16 CAMPERS BY THE TIME THE DRAKON SHOWS UP. They left camp with 2 buses full of hopeful demigods, but by the end of the book, the survivors don’t even fill up half of a bus.

my favourite thing about sally jackson is how she's stayed such a romantic her whole life despite what she's gone through and nobody talks about it. she sacrificed her years of school so that she could take care of her dying uncle. she was deserted by poseidon after having his kid. she sacrificed the next few decade or so of her life taking care of percy and was repeatedly abused and put down by gabe, all while struggling to become educated, even though gabe disapproved of it. majority of her life was wasted away for the sake of other men. but she put in the work, went to college and became an author who writes romance books. she supports and roots for percy and annabeth's love and is not strict on them at all. she started a new family. she reclaimed the part of her that was a dreamer and was young to pursue her dreams, even at an age where moms are usually expected to retire.
