Shut Up and Listen

If someone turns to you to vent, and you actually care. Don't make the situation about you. Shut up and listen to them. They don't need someone to relate to. They need someone to listen while they let out the emotions they've been bottling up inside. They need someone who will help build them up.

When you make it about you or add something of your own to what they're saying. You're basically saying that their feeling don't mean anything. Which will only push them to become more closed off and ultimately worsen their mental state.

So next time someone vents to you shut up and listen.
