Maebh watched the girl’s face, something niggling in the back of her mind that she couldn’t quite grasp. She looked so familiar…Shaking her head once, Maebh smiled sheepishly. “I came to surprise a friend. I know she’d in the mythology department, but I don’t know quite where that is. Can you point me in the right direction?”

Luca nodded. "Yeah. It's right over that way," she said, pointing toward the way she had just come. "Most of the professors are on their way out for the evening, so you might catch your friend on your way in." She smiled lightly, still trying to figure out who this woman was. She smelled human, but humans never questioned where they were."Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Maebh held herself in Glamour and stared at the large, columned building before her. She’d gotten word that her dearest husband may have holed himself up in this backwater town, and she sneered in disgust at the atmosphere around her. It was so…antebellum. She was about to turn away when a figure caught her eye.

The girl was blond and….she pulled the information from the air…vampire. Her lip curled once more in disgust, but something about this girl…Moving to intercept her, Maebh dropped her Glamour and reached to tap the girl’s shoulder from behind. 

"Excuse me, dear," she said, her smooth British accent a nice addition to her pleasant tone, "I’m afraid I’m quite turned around. Do you mind telling me where we are?"

Luca turned around, an eyebrow raised. She smiled at the stranger sweetly. "Oh, not at all. You're in Damh Loch, Mississippi. Specifically, you're at Damh Loch University. Are you looking for anyone or anything in particular?" Luca was growing accustomed to confused or odd people, creatures, and queries. It was a normal thing on the campus and in the town. She didn't even need to sniff the woman to know she was Fae, but what threw her was the fact that she couldn't even smell the Fae on her, a smell she had grown quite comfortable with identifying. This woman was extremely powerful... Her immediate thoughts jumped to running to Ean and keeping a pleasant expression on her face.

Luca smiled lightly to herself as she left the library and started her walk home. She never saw the point in driving- parking was a nightmare and she only lived about a twenty minute walk away.

Setting Luca on the floor again, Jarrod swayed with her, not noticing the music had stopped. “Well,” he replied conversationally, “If tonight never ended, we would never have another date, and that would defeat the purpose of my question, wouldn’t it?” His boyish grin was affectionate as he dipped her and pulled her back up. “Plus, I have the appetite of a wild animal when I get hungry.”

She laughed lightly at the dip and then smiled seductively up at him at his words. "I'll keep that in mind."

Jarrod stood, pulling Luca up with him and into his arms, her feet dangling off the ground. A soft smile on his face, he said, “Unfortunately, I don’t have a letter-man jacket or a class ring to give you, but maybe this will be enough?” Then, he lowered his face to hers, brushing their lips together for the first time in the months they’d been seeing each other. It was feather-light at first, just a taste, then he deepened it, just slightly, before pulling back, eyes locked on hers.

"Is that better than a jacket?"

When he kissed her, she felt it all the way to her toes. She didn't even realize that her feet weren't on the ground. A slight pout formed on her lips when he ended the kiss. She then smiled. "Better than a ring, a jacket, and an ID bracelet combined," she breathed before kissing him again. She enjoyed the feel of his arms wrapped around her, holding her in place. When the second kiss ended, she could only look into his eyes with a smile plastered on her face. "I don't want tonight to end," she said.

Jarrod smiled down at Luca then leaned in until his cheek was brushing her temple as they swayed to the music. “You’re not what I expected, Lucasta Redwood,” he murmured into her hair, “The more I learn about you, the more I want to know.” He considered what he wanted to say then chuckled, pulling back.

"Remember the generation I was raised in, Luca, when I ask you this." Lowering himself to one knee, Jarrod grinned and waggled his eyebrows. "Do you want to go steady?"

Her eyes widened as he lowered himself to one knee. She knew him better than to think he was about to purpose, but that just made her even more curious. She laughed lightly at his "suggestive" eyebrows and then sobered up when he spoke again, asking her to be his girlfriend. She bit her bottom lip as she nodded her head. "Yes. I'd like that very much," she said, a giggle escaping her she was so ecstatic. She leaned down and hugged him, not patient enough to wait for him to stand.

Jarrod lifted and eyebrow like the answer was obvious. “To the New Year, of course,” he replied mildly, “To new beginnings.” He reached out to clink his glass against Luca’s then sipped at the champagne. After he sat the glass down, Jarrod smiled and finished his plate of food and waited for Luca to finish as well. Once they were both done, Jarrod reached down and pressed a button on the boombox underneath the table before standing up, moving around the table and holding out a hand towards Luca.

"May I have this dance?" he asked, just as the beginning chords began to drift across the grove.

Luca smiled lightly as their glasses clinked! delicately against each other. She then sipped the liquid and resumed eating. Once they were finished and the music shifted from Ella to... She couldn't help but smile as she recognized the song instantly. When he walked over to her and offered his hand, she took it and stood, following him a bit away from the table before dancing. She looked up into Jarrod's eyes with a smile and then proceeded to blush as the lyrics talked about saying that a woman looked wonderful tonight.

"Don’t flatter me, Luca," Jarrod reprimanded with a half smile, "It’s not like I’m the head chef at a five star restaurant." He remained silent for a little while, listening to Ella’s voice as he chewed thoughtfully. "You know, even being a supernatural who lives longer than the average human, it’s odd to think about someone you know friends with someone who was famous decades ago." Shrugging, Jarrod took up the stem of the champagne flute in front of him and held it up. 

"A toast?"

Luca laughed. "You could have fooled me." She continued to eat, the food's flavor bursting in her mouth. He really did have a talent with seasoning and herbs. It was downright magical. 

She raised a brow at his sentiments regarding life spans. She nodded lightly. "It is a bit odd. It's like a different lifetime, a different person lived those memories..." When he proposed a toast, Luca smiled and lifted her glass as well. "Alright. What shall we toast to?"

Jarrod didn’t bother to look at the scene in front of them, since he was intimately familiar with its every detail. Instead he watched Luca’s face, a tender smile on his own, loving the way her eyes lit up with pleasure when she took everything in. When she squeezed his hand, he sent a responding squeeze right on back to her. “I’m glad you like it,” he said genuinely. “Come on, the food is getting cold.”

Leading Luca over to the table, he pulled her chair out for her. Once she was seated, he popped open the bottle of champagne that had been chilling in the wine bucket and poured the sparkling amber liquid into the two flutes on the table. With a flick of his wrist, Jarrod pulled the lid off of Luca’s place dramatically to reveal steak, potatoes and asparagus gathered neatly on the plate. “There we go,” he said, more to himself. Then, he made his way to his own seat and sat, reaching to an unseen location to press play and allow Ella Fitzgerald to croon softly. Revealing his own plate, Jarrod gestured towards Luca. “Tell me what you think.”

She thanked him for getting her seat and then sat. She eyed the champagne with a raised brow, amusement in her eyes. He never drank. This was a special occasion indeed. But then, it was New Years. The smell of the food hit her full force after he pulled the lid off of the plate. "This smells amazing," she said. She had totally forgotten to eat anything all day, having been too preoccupied over choosing what she'd wear this evening, which was made apparent to her when her stomach grumbled. She blushed lightly. 

She paused for a moment when Ella's voice started to sing. A reminiscent look crossed her features. "I miss Ella... She and my mother were quite good friends for a time..." She came back to the here and now and took a bite of her food. She smiled. "It's fantastic, but then, your cooking is always exceptionally brilliant."

Jarrod merely responded to Luca’s question with a grin. “We don’t need to wait that long,” he said quickly, “Just go with it, Luca.” Then, Jarrod tied the blindfold around her eyes and scooped her up, so she was almost seated in the crook of his right arm. Without even breaking a sweat, he carried Luca down the steps to his truck. “After all,” he said casually as he walked, “Isn’t is a relief to be off your heels? I never understood why woman wore shoes that just needed to be taken off later.”

When they got to the truck, Jarrod deposited Luca gently into the passenger seat and took the driver’s seat. He didn’t go directly to their destination but drove around in circles for a bit instead. After he was comfortable their way was confused, Jarrod drove to their spot, where he had taken her for their first date months ago. That day, he had strung the trees’ bare limbs with battery-powered twinkling lights and set up a table in the middle of the grove, complete with white tablecloth, candles, a wine bucket and fine china covered with domed silver lids. Clearing his throat, Jarrod lowered her gently to the ground just outside the grove and pulled off the blindfold. “Voila,” he murmured softly.

"Okay!" she laughed. She then let out a surprised sound when he picked her up after blindfolding her. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders after he picked her up, a laugh escaping her as he made his way down the stairs. "That's the whole point, Jarrod," she said in a light, teasing, flirtatious manner when he finished speaking his thought about high heels.

Once in the truck, Luca straightened out the skirt of her dress and looked over in Jarrod's general direction after he was in the cab of the truck. She shook her head again, a grin on her face. She then looked to her right as if she were looking out the window. Her hand found Jarrod's right one. They easily maneuvered into holding hands, this position a normal one for them. She had never thought it possible to enjoy such a simple form of contact so much. She bit her lower lip. They still had yet to kiss on the lips. The build up was getting quite... intense. All the innocent touches and passion filled looks that they've shared over the past few months... Just the thought made her shiver. She caressed the side of his thumb with hers absently. The suspense was slowly starting to get to her. Where was he taking her?

Once the truck stopped and he got out of the car to come get her, her breath caught. She was suddenly very nervous. When he opened her door and picked her up in the same fashion as earlier, she wrapped her arms around him yet again. One he lowered her to the ground, she felt grass beneath her heels. When he took of the blindfold, she let her eyes remain shut for a moment longer before opening her eyes.

When her eyes blinked open, the image before her was so... hauntingly beautiful and romantic. She turned to look up at Jarrod. She smiled as she kicked off her heels, her hand finding his again. "It's our place," she breathed as she looked at the image before her. She had yet to make a move toward the table. Her hand squeezed his lightly as she then looked back up at him. "It's..." She couldn't think of a word. Beautiful, wonderful, amazing... All of the adjectives in the dictionary just couldn't compare to the image before her and the emotion it evoked within her.

Jarrod smiled charmingly when Luca kissed his cheek, but when he would normally reach out his hand to take hers and get going, he took a step back an waited until she’d closed and locked her door, a mischievous grin on his face. 

"I’ve been planning this for a while, little leech. We have to keep the surprise, so before we go…" Out of his pocket, Jarrod tugged a black length of cloth. "You need to be blindfolded."

When she turned back around to face him as she put her keys in her clutch, she raised a brow. That look. That look said he had a crazy-ass surprise, like the times he took her hunting, mudding, and four-wheeling. She gave him a suspicious look as he pulled out the blindfold, her mind going to dirty, dark places before she smiled lightly. Her gaze moved from him to the piece of fabric and back. "Am I being initiated into a secret society?" she joked. She then looked at the stairs. "You can blindfold me once we get downstairs," she said after looking back at him, a smile on her face as she shook her head lightly, the gesture saying "what am I going to do with you?"

Jarrod sat in his truck for a moment, taking deep breaths to assuage his nervousness. He was dressed in a pair of dark wash jeans and a nice-button up shirt Dolly had helped him pick out, and he had dabbed on the faint cologne which was the only scent his sensitive nose could stand. He could do this. He’d planned the whole night down to a T, and after dating Luca for months now, he knew she wouldn’t be a stickler about any hiccups, but he was nervous nonetheless.

Finally, Jarrod forced himself out of the truck and climbed the stairs to Luca’s front door. After he knocked on the wood, he fidgeted until it opened, and as it swung inward, he held up a bouquet of frozen magnolias towards Luca with a half-smile on his face. “I got these for you.”

After doing her hair and makeup, Luca had tried on everything in her wardrobe at least twice before she settled on an black lace dress over a gold- and gray-toned bustier. It was sexy and classy and not too dressy. She heard the knock on her door and cursed. She hated to keep Jarrod waiting, but after a few months of dating she knew that he wouldn't get upset. Throwing on her heels and snagging her clutch as she put in her second earring, she walked to the front door and opened it. What she found there... Her jaw dropped. He was in a button down. And those jeans... They were tight in just the right places; she knew she'd have to thank Dolly for that later. She could smell a hint of something different, and she realized it was cologne. She found herself liking it. And then the flowers. She just stared at the Magnolias for a moment before looking up at him, her expression saying "OMGOMGOMG! For me?" She quickly regained her composure and smiled up at him, her eyes locking with his for a moment before she accepted the flowers. "They're amazing," she breathed out as she looked down at them. "It's the sweetest..." she trailed off. "Excuse me," she ducked back into the apartment without shutting the door to go and hang the flowers. There was no way she wouldn't keep them for the rest of her life. She then walked back out to him, leaned in, and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you."

Lunch Date

"You’re welcome," Jarrod said on a swallow. His mouth was dry. Luca looked at him the most beautiful eyes he’d ever seen, and he so badly wanted to get lost in them. Without realizing it, he was leaning in, but he caught himself before he got too close to reroute. Hesitating, he remembered his promise to value every kiss or caress enough for it to mean something special when he gave them to his mate. With a rueful smile, he finished leaning in and kissed Luca softly on the cheek. "Have a nice night, Luca." Then, he turned around and made his way back to his truck, glancing back when he opened his door. Shaking his head at himself, Jarrod hopped into the truck and drove home.

Luca's breath caught when he leaned in, her eyes sliding shut a brief second before he kissed her cheek. Her eyes fluttered open, her eyes catching his as he straightened. For a moment, his action didn't hit her. A blush slowly crept up her cheeks and she looked away. His action had been so sweet and... innocent. It made everything, the whole date, just breathtaking. She couldn't even respond to his words. After he had walked away, she stood rooted to her spot for a moment, her hand coming up to rest on her cheek where he had kissed her. She turned her head to watch as he shut his truck door, completely missing him looking back at her. Her blush deepened as she sent him a light wave and then hurried into her apartment. Once the door was shut, she leaned against it and smiled to herself, her hand coming up once again to her cheek, caressing it lightly.

Jarrod walked beside Luca in companionable silence, opening the door for her when they got back to the truck. He deposited the basket and blanket in the bed before taking his own seat and started the motor. He didn’t need to force any conversation with her, and before he knew it, he was parked in front of her place. He left the engine running as he escorted her to her door and fidgeted restlessly.

"Thanks again for coming out with me."

She looked up and met his eyes, her hands clasped behind her back. She was quite restless herself. "Thank you for inviting me," she said sweetly. Luca bit her lower lip. Kiss me. Kiss me. Kiss me, she chanted in her mind, hoping that he would. She'd never felt so much... anticipation or frustration or attraction in her life, except for Emrys, but that was something different all together. Normally dealing with the opposite sex, including flirtation, came easily, like second nature. For some reason, she cared what this wolf thought of her.

Jarrod had been disappointed when Luca had released his hand, but he offered his arm again when she straightened, so he could escort her to the truck. He waited until she accepted it before he moved on, a small smile on his face. 

"I had a nice time, Luca. Thank you. I needed to relax a bit."

She smiled as she looped her arm through his. "No, thank you for the wonderful picnic. It was perfect," she said with a grin as they started to walk back the way they had come.

Eanruig frowned thoughtfully as he remembered naked, dancing satyrs and the like and shook his head with a small chuckle. It caught in his throat when he saw an image of Claudia on a particular Imbolc in the past. Patting Luca’s hand, he said, “Wear whatever you like. The colors tend to be red, orange and white.”

Luca nodded. "Gives me a reason to go shopping," she said with a wicked grin. As he opened the car door for her, she thanked him and sat down, her mind going to what Imbolc had in store for her...

Jarrod smiled and shook his head. “I’ve got it. There’s not much mess anyway.” Once he was finished, Jarrod picked up the basket and offered Luca a gallant hand with a slight bow. “May I help you to your feet?”

She smiled and accepted his hand, a slight giggle escaping her as she stood. "Thank you," she murmured. She then bent down to pick up the blanket and folded it, purposefully tucking it under the arm away from Jerrod, hoping he'd retake her hand.
