Garrett chuckles inwardly when her stomach makes weird sounds, but doesn´t bring it up. He watches calmly as she picks the food, haphazardly picking more random stuff and throwing it to the cashier who looks even more annoyed.
Peanut butter irks him, but he doesn´t comment on it as she picks a jar with a bunch of bread.
“There is no need for thanking, darling. I am always up for helping people in need” Garrett does not mention that he has been there, thrown in the street while still young without nothing to eat and living on a thread. His powers had been so hard to control back then… “I don´t need payment, I am willingly offering it. My mamma used to quote something that said like : ` Nothing is yours, Garret. It is to use. It is to share. If you will not share it, you cannot use it. ´, and she gave me grief if I did not share, so I kind of learnt.” His heart pangs a little painfully at thinking of his mother, but he covers it up with a smile. “I am sure that we all have been in a hard place, and it is always nice to receive some kindness. I am a sucker for the concept of karma.”
Garrett almost slams the dollar notes on the counter, leaving a generous tip to the awful clerk a smiling almost saccharine-sweet. He grabs a couple of cookie bags, some potato chips bags, three candy bars and a couple of pop-tart packages and puts them on a separate bag along with the bread and peanut butter and hands it to the girl.
“My name is Garret. I was going to the little coffee down the street, do you fancy some pie? Their apple pie is to die for.”
He does not expect for the answer and makes his way out. If he exerts some power to throw a bunch of stuff down in the store… the asshole deserved it.
It was interesting to the girl, how a complete stranger would be willing to be so kind to her. With her hair a mess and her clothes dirty as can be, the only thing she ever expected from most was to offer her some change or give her a ride to the shelter. It wasn’t that she didn’t try to take care of herself, she did. It just seemed almost impossible to make things work out for her. “I do need to thank you.. This is really nice of you.. Thank you.” Even if it was bread and some peanut butter, it meant a lot to her. It was something she could eat off of for days and the mixture would fill her up.
Listening to his sweet tale, she couldn’t help but crack a smile. “Your mother sounds like a smart woman.” Lux always envied those who were able to be with their parents. All the memories and good times they must have. All she had was the time she spent in a shelter or hospital. “Still.. Thank you. For sharing.”
Watching him closely, she looked over all the snacks he was buying. He must have been a hungry man, but then when he placed the items into her bag, her head began to shake. “O-Oh no, no. You’ve already done more than enough.” How was he about to do this? Just give and give without a care in the world? It must have been nice.
“Uh.. I’m Lux.” She smiled softly. “Nice to meet you, Garret.” Nodding her head, she rushed after him as he exited the shop. “P-Pie?” The thought of the food, make her heart flutter. “Honestly, you’ve shared more than I could share back.. Plus, I’m not exactly great company.”
