Snow smiled brightly at Lux, it felt so good to hear someone say that. Sitting there and talking about tough topics like the past, and to move onto such normal topics like boys was amazing. It was the first time in a very long time like she was sitting there like a normal girl just talking with a friend. “Yeah, alright. I guess I just have to be myself, and someone might like me for who I am. As long as they’re not a douchebag” she said with a giggle. Snow tried not to let her disappointment show on her face too much as Lux said Travis’s name. Snow tried not too, but she did have a little crush on him, even though he acted in a more brotherly/fatherly/protective way towards her, he was still handsome and mysterious. “Oh, it’s Travis? Well, he’s such a great guy. And I think that if it’s something you both really want, then you should just go for it. Why go around pretending? No one knows how much time we have left so you should just…be together. You don’t have to call it boyfriends and girlfriends”

“You’ll always find one or two douchebags in the crowd. That’s why you learn how to defend yourself. A good kick to the nuts has never hurt anyone...permanently at least.” She nudged Snow’s arm with a smile, glad to see a smile on the other girls face. Which dropped all of sudden, for a second, quickly masked by another smile she put on. It left Lux confused for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on in her head. “Are you okay? And well, yeah, I mean he is but ...that’s the point. Put a label on it and it becomes too real...you let it get too close. It’s better like this. He can do whatever he wants, I can do whatever I want. If any of us die there won’t be any drama. So yeah, whatever. Besides, he seems really popular with the ladies in here.” She added with a quiet laugh.”

Smiling back at Lux, Snow felt good for admitting that, at least Lux believed her when she said it. People would sometimes think it was easy for Snow to say she wanted a simpler life because she could have whatever she wanted. “Maybe this a way to show us what really matters. Try and become decent again. Everyone here has showed that to me. Even though I’m kinda not accepted, the way everyone helps each other, cares for each other, gives me a lot of hope.” Snow had always imagined what it would be like to be in a relationship, but she always brushed it off as something she could never have. She couldn’t really imagine any guy being able to look past her innocence and nativity. “I don’t know, maybe. If someone liked me, I guess I would. I don’t know who would like me, though. I think I might be a bit too…weird for anyone. Really, why not? If you like him, why not just ask him? And obviously he likes you too, if you’re only “technically” not dating him. Who is it?”

It was actually a pretty nice day to be outside, the sun was shining bright and making it easy for the mood to be light and positive. She didn’t judge Snow for the family she was born into.  Hell, hers was ...a mess. In every damn way possible. And pretty dead, but that wasn’t something the outbreak triggered. “Hope is everything we can give each other these days. And you will be accepted in here, don’t worry about that. People here just need some time and you will be fine, I promise. Besides, you got me now, don’t you?” Lux answered her with a big grin plastered on her face. The blush on Snow’s face amused her, her innocence about these things. It was rare. “There’s no such thing as too weird. Don’t shy away from anything because you think someone may not like you the way you are. There’ll always be someone that appreciates exactly that...weirdness. What makes you different or unique. Well, I said technically because ..I don’t know. I don’t like labels. Especially not these days, we all have other things to focus on. It’s complicated. Um..well..I don’t ...I don’t know, It’s nothing exclusive we’re just kinda venting and shit. I don’t want to pull Travis into anything.”

Snow shrugged, a little embarrassed, “Yeah, you could say that. I never really saw myself that way, mostly because I didn’t want all of that. I didn’t want the big house and fancy cars and expensive clothes. I don’t like what it stands for. It’s not like I ever worked hard to earn any of it, so what does that show of me?” She kind of felt like a backwards fairytale, a princess with everything she could wish for, but all she wanted was a little house and a dog. And in a strange way, she kind of got that. “Well, I was different. No one ever trusted anyone’s intentions so they thought they were trying to get at my families money by…exploiting me, I guess.” Snow looked at Lux wide eyed. Everything she was saying, about her life being a story she could write for herself, it filled her with hope, that she didn’t ever have to be the way she was before. Blushing and covering her face, Snow said, “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t really gotten to know anybody. But all of the guys here are so handsome, it’s like you all hand picked them. What about you, do you have a boyfriend?”

“Materialistic things are just...pointless. But not succumbing to these things shows you’re better, bigger than that.” Getting to know Snow better was ..actually great. She seemed like a quiet person, but now that they were talking, she probably just needed time to open up to people. Lux’ smile was warm and encouraging, she knew what it felt like to be different or feel like the world is against you. But she also learned to cope with it, make the best out of that situation. “That sucks. Unfortunately, that’s how the world works these days. Used to. People are lead by the need to have it all. Consumed and ridden by what they see on TV, or what you can buy with money. Maybe this is our payback for all the shit we did.” She said quietly, her head rolled sideways to look at Snow. “You should, though. Catch up on everything you’ve missed all these years and just take the opportunity to live. We can’t change this situation right now anyway, so better make the best out of it I guess. Hm? I...no. Not really. He’s...not my boyfriend so technically no.”

“Alright, yeah — I get where you are coming from.”he said as she kept on listing all the things apparently he had in common with her brother. Not like he ever spent time comparing himself to others but what she was saying was clear to him, and kinda made him realize it’s all true. “And no, it doesn’t sound like you have a complex; you’re just pointing out two similar personalities.”he mumbled, giving her a look. These past days it’s been super busy, with so many people being stuck in isolation, many places had to be covered due to it, and he simply had no time to go upstairs. But he nodded nonetheless. “I was planning on it, things were just too busy at the wall. But you’re right, I should. — I think you’re just being paranoid right now. And I get it, you’re one of those people who went missing, everything is questionable to you. We need to focus on making this camera thing work for us, and base has to be on alert too since one of their own went missing now as well.”

“Obviously, I’m almost never wrong.” She said jokingly, a smug grin on her face. That was obviously a big, fat lie. She was wrong at least twenty times a day and a huge...very big ‘wrong’ was turning on the satellites. Though he seemed to understand her point. “You know what the biggest selling point was? That both of you have changed so much. In a good way. So all the negative crap you two got in common, well, all of us have a dark side.” Lux added as her grin turned into a warm smile and she took a few steps aside to walk along the fence — he surely would follow. “I heard so. Pretty messy these days, hm? Do we have a lot of people in training that could take up a position as guard any time soon? —Travis, it’s not just that. I mean it is terrifying because you have no idea what’s going on and you were knocked out or something while people did shit to your body. That’s just sick. Someone is taking our freedom and will from us and abusing everything humanity stands for. For what? We don’t even know that. But next time someone may not come back or maybe we’re chipped like animals, one by one. And I’m just trying to make sense of something here. But nothing does and it’s frustrating. And I still don’t fucking know where my goddamn USB is! It’s out cold, so i can’t track it.If I could track it down, we would have at least...some kind of information about where people could be taken. — You’re right. I’m sorry, this is just hard to let go of. Focus on the camera. Yes.”

“If I knew enough big words I’d be doing that too, except I don’t. I’ve just spent enough time around preppy girls to know how to look at people. You know, like you’re looking at them as if what their saying to you is totally not cool and you’re too good to hear it. I haven’t used it in a long time, but I totally should around some people” Snow said, laughing along with Lux. She composed herself just long enough to raise an eyebrow at her, mouth slightly agape as if what she was saying was completely below her, before busting out into a soft giggle again. “You’re right, I am capable. I can decide what I want to do. And when I’m all trained up, I’m going to get a real job. And if they don’t want to stay here then they can go and find somewhere else. I can do what I want, and I want to stay here”. She listened to Lux’s story, completely in awe of how different their lives had been. If her mother had heard this, she’d have ushered Snow off, telling her not to hang out with her sort. “No, I guess they don’t appreciate it. But it’s good that you found each other, even if you don’t know each other that well. I guess that means you get to appreciate each other more. Mylo never appreciated anything, nothing was ever enough for him. We were given everything we ever wanted, handed to us on a silver platter. But it couldn’t buy you friends, no matter how hard my mom tried with me. And I could never get a boyfriend. Though, I don’t know whether that was because of the way I am or whether my family was a huge terrifying corporation. It’s weird, I guess none of that matters anymore, everyone is in the same position. No one has anything except for what we can get ourselves. ”

“Maybe you shouldn’t do that. I mean, pretending like you’re too good to hear it is kinda..a turn off for most. Just be yourself and, well, whoever doesn’t like you can suck a tit.” Lux joined her fit of giggled with a quiet laugh, hands propped onto the bench as she leaned back and rolled her head into her neck. “Exactly. They can find another place to stay if they don’t like it. No one is forcing them to stay and follow rules or shit. And your brother should set his priorities right.” She added the last part with a sigh. It wasn’t like she always got along with Nash either, they were hot-headed, stubborn people that always need to be right. And never have the same opinion on anything. But even if they fought, they knew that having each other was a privilege. “So you’re pretty ..ah, what do they say? Posh? No, money can’t buy you anything that’s really important. It satisfies luxury needs, but personal ones? Wait — you weren’t allowed to have a boyfriend? Why did you allow them to control you like that? I know I would’ve just..bailed. Not because of the boyfriend thing. I’ve believed the true meaning of life is freedom. For me at least. And that’s what we all are. Maybe not physically, but we’re all starting anew. There’s no money to our name, no crime that makes us less worth than others. Everything you do starting from the day you enter this place is what matters. Not who you used to be. You can finally be the person that has her freedom. Let go of everything in the past, move on from that and learn. But right now? You’re an unwritten book with so many left to fill. People here don’t know you, they don’t care whether you had a shitload of money, a disease, whatever. You write your own story now. And you can have any guy you want without anyone interfering. Anyone you have your eyes set on as a free woman?

Snow giggled, half because what Lux said was funny, but the other half because she thought she would be genuinely good at it. She was a natural comforter, at least Snow thought so. “I’ll go and give you a reference right now. I’ll even put on my professional voice and pretend that I’m super mature and smart” She said with a smile, putting on a deeper, more husky voice to sound older. She didn’t know how old Lux was, but she thought that there must have only been a year or two between them, she was probably the same age as her brother, but she was so vastly different from both of them. “Well, as long as they don’t boss me about like they used to. I don’t really need anyone to hold my hand anymore. I just…do what I think I need to. I go training everyday and I’m always on time. Then I go and help out whoever wants me to and then I take Toad for a walk on the road. All by myself. So they’ll see that they were wrong to call me a baby. What were you like before all of this? Did you do all of your computer stuff? Did you hang out with your friends? What about your brother? I still haven’t met him yet…Sorry I’m asking too many questions again”

Lux quietly laughed along the other woman, for the first time genuinely appreciating her. She hadn’t been around Snow a whole lot and never gotten the chance to really get to know her, but so far? She seemed like someone she could easily call  a friend in no time. It was just something about Snow, something...innocent that this place clearly lacked. “Oh pretending to be mature and smart is totally my thing too. Sometimes I just throw in terms I know people don’t understand to sound smart.” She added laughing, a hand running over her nose as she avoided the little snort that threatened to leave her throat. “They won’t even have the time to boss anyone around. Let alone baby you. You’re grown ass woman, you’re fucking capable on your own. I strongly believe that when you’re supposed to  be in charge of your uterus, you’re allowed to do whatever you want. But..also, don’t listen to me. I’m really bad at rules and listening and following orders.” Lux quickly threw in, grimacing at herself before she went quiet for a moment. “No no, it’s okay just ask what you want to know. I used to do all...that computer stuff before already. I started when I was around sixteen or seventeen. Just..kinda had to support myself with something and it’s also a great way to threaten people that don’t like you. And friends, I never really had a lot of friends to be honest. I was on the road most of the time, didn’t have a set home or place. I was on my own my whole life and friends just didn’t happen. I’d leave town after a couple of days anyway. And I met my brother two years ago. We didn’t grow up together. He grew up in south korea with..our father and I grew up here, a christian orphanage. Sounds as thrilling as it was, I know. So I’m still getting to know Nash just like everybody else. It’s sad that your brother was such a dick to you when you grew up. Just kinda feels like some people don’t appreciate what they have.”

Huffing, his smirk widened for a second; it was on point, Lux wasn’t the best secrets keeper, but knowing she trusted him meant more than he’d admit. As she explained the situation with Nash, Travis let out a short sigh, looking at her. “Next time I see him, I’ll make sure to drag his ass to you. Since I usually know where you’re hiding at.”he said, he couldn’t really compare his situation to hers; most of the time he wished Nicholas was gone, and that Seb was somewhere better. “We are? What do you mean?”he questioned. “Alright, I really think you should have been a psychiatrist before. If you do go upstairs, make sure you stay behind the glass wall. Doubt they will really let you in. And if they do make sure to be equipped properly. Yeah, I figured so, everyone is doing whatever they can. - Weird? Why do you say that?”

Well, she wasn’t exactly someone that ventured off into the wildness a lot. Which..okay, she did this time. But usually, she stuck to her own four walls. So having Travis drag Nash there was a good plan. Of sorts. When two stubborn assholes collided...you had a very kinky image in your head. She rolled her head back for a moment, staring up at him as she thought about the right answer. “Well, I could actually make you a..five page long essay, but i’ll keep it short. You both are hot-headed, have that ‘I need to protect everyone at all times’ mentality but also say you don’t want to be anyones hero, both...struggling with a lot of things and just keeping it inside instead of talking it through. You’d prefer to suffer alone and just silence the demons instead of dealing with them. And it also took me a year to get through those thick skulls. Now that makes me look like I have some sort of complex.” She muttered the last part with scrunched brows, but quickly shrugged it off. “Too late for that, but that’s not the first time I heard it. Maybe you should lay down on a couch and I’ll go full Psychiatrist on you? I will be careful, I know, yes, thank you for your concern but I’m careful alright? All I do is talk to people and sneak in a few snacks every now and then. You should come along, some of the guards could probably use a little prep talk. — Because everyone was gone for days and had...significantly worse bruises or wounds. I feel like they didn’t go all the way with me...which sounds completely stupid, but..I don’t know. Maybe they got interrupted by something. Or I’m really that bad of a bone marrow donor. “

“Alright, I won’t get into stuff I don’t know about. Just keep me posted. And we’ll get this done.”he said with a small smirk. He wasn’t going to just sit around and let it all drop on her. Since the day they went on their suicide mission to turn the satellites on, they were in all of this mess together. “Yeah? To be honest, I haven’t seen him around much, either. He busy with supply runs?”Travis asked curiously, he didn’t know about everyone’s whereabouts but at times like these, with people going missing, they had to keep an eye on each other. “They are being isolated for their own good, And ours. There are not enough medics for all of them, but they are trying and giving their best, I haven’t seen Riley in days. - He is? Did you speak to him, does he remember anything, or nothing like all of you?”

“I will. It’s not like I’m good at secrets anyway.” She replied with a smirk similar to his. He’s been...one of the constants in her life these days. In all honesty, if it hadn’t been for him she’d have gone mad already. Travis probably didn’t even know how much she needed him and his support. “Yeah he’s just...super busy. With everything. I guess it’s a good thing he helps out where he can, but I just want five minutes with him these days. Just to ask how he is. Maybe force him to take a break. You and Nash are just so fucking similar sometimes.” Lux chuckled quietly. “But that doesn’t mean we have to act like they’re some rabies ridden dogs. Their mental health is just as important and people are up there fucking around with them. She’s trying to find a way to make medicine with herbs, so she’s probably busy as hell. — Nope. Same as with everyone else. But his wounds are a lot worse than mine, despite the similar marks. Which is...weird.

Travis simply shot her a look, there was no way she’d let him off easy with this. But it didn’t matter right now; as she started to talk about what could be done. “Sounds like a good option to me. If the cameras are really wired in and people are having access to them, messing around with what’s on them, we should give this a try. Who would you need on this? An engineer? Just say it and we’ll get people on this.”he said, shifting more to face her fully. “You shouldn’t be going up there, that’s why it’s called isolation. They will get better, doctors know what’s wrong with them and are working on it. The same people who’ve been doing this from the start. I heard Kayden, a guy from the Base, was missing for a few now too.”

“An engineer for sure, maybe ..I don’t know, I’ll have to think this through. Talk with some other people that know a thing or two about this crap. Glad you’re in on this though. You know, these days I talk more to you than my own brother.” She smiled up at him before she placed her laptop in her bag and slung it over her shoulder as she stood up. “How is anyone supposed to get better when they’re isolated from everyone? They need people to talk to that aren’t infected with some..fucked up virus. Besides, I didn’t lick their blood off the walls. I stood outside and talked to Jax. They better find a damn cure, otherwise we’re..well, probably fucked. — He’s back. They found him with the same bruises I have. Just that he’s been gone for even longer. I don’t even..want to imagine what he went through. Everyone that went missing.”

“That was… a week ago.” 

The words she spoke hit him harder than even Kayden imagined possible. She said he had been gone for days and things weren’t making sense. He didn’t know how he ended up in that hospital bed in the medical area at Base or why his entire body was sore. He didn’t know why he had bruises on his arms or marks around his wrists. Kayden felt like he didn’t know anything and that made his chest tighten up as he leaned forward, trying to catch a breath that he didn’t realize he was taking. “Lux,” he spoke her name without looking at her when his eyes were glued on the marks on his wrists. “What the hell happened to me?” Even as he asked the question, he knew she wouldn’t know the answer. Did she even know where she had been the entire time she was missing?

Her eyes slowly fell to his wrists, her eyes glued on the marks just as his were. They were familiar, hit home right away. She swallowed thickly,  gently grabbing his shoulders as he said her name quietly. “It’s okay, we’ll find out what happened. You’re safe now.” The young woman said quietly as she tried to find the words to make it better. There were none. Nothing could take that feeling away, the fear and uncertainty. She lightly shook her head at the other, crouching down next to the bed to look at his face properly. “Don’t look at it. Don’t think about it. It’ll only get worse if you do. I...can I have a look at your back?”

“Wh-what do you mean I’ve been gone for days?” That didn’t make any sense. Who in the hell just went missing for days in a time like this? How did that even happen? Except… Kayden could remember when Lux had been missing not long ago, and there were others just the same. Hearing them all going missing didn’t make any sense to him then and it didn’t make any sense to him now as he pressed the palm of his hand against the bed and looked down to see the bruises on his arm. “I…” He was in plenty of pain as the discomfort settled in his bones, but that was the last thing he cared about right now. “Umm… I remember the attack and taking care of shit the next day. That was yesterday..—” As far as he remembered it was.

She understood the confusion on his face, the panic that probably settled in his chest. The questions he was asking himself. It’s like waking up from a dream, where you’re unsure of everything surrounding you, unable to make sense of anything. Not knowing what you did for those days missing was horrifying. You picture the worst of scenarios. Bone chilling ones. She wanted to console him, force him back into bed, but she wasn’t sure where he was hurt and didn’t want to make it worse. “ We’ve been looking for you, but...no signs. You’re the first one from the base that got kidnapped.” Lux said quietly, a sad look on her face. “That was...a week ago, Kayden. It...I’m sorry, that was not yesterday.”

He was… home? What the hell was she talking about? Of course, she meant the Base, but he knew that and he knew that’s where he was since there was nowhere else for Kayden to ever be unless he took that walk that led him towards the Hospital or even if he ventured out past the walls which was extremely rare. A confused look stayed on his face at her words as he glanced over at the woman standing beside a bed that wasn’t his, which had him even more confused than before. “Of course, I’m…” His words cut off as he cleared his throat and pushed himself to sit up, even with her hand resting on his arm and the bit of pain that shot through his body. Why was he in pain? “What the hell am I doing here?”

At the pained expression plastered all over his face, Lux took a step back and quickly retrieved her arm. She didn’t know what had happened to him, shouldn’t have touched him in the first place. “You’ve been gone for days. They brought you here after they found you ..in your bed I guess. Are you in pain? Should I call someone to give you meds? “ She asked quickly, eyes raking over his face in an almost panicking manner. “Can you remember anything?”

Nodding lightly to Lux’s words of encouragement, Snow started to feel a lot better. She had made it this far, with a lot of help, but her constant need to prove herself worthy was what had driven her. Showing people that she could make something over herself. She smiled as Lux squeezed her hand. “You’re really good at talking to people. I haven’t talked like this with someone in a really long time.” She let out a sigh as she thought of her group. They weren’t nice to her, but they respected her brother enough to keep her safe. “They were mean. They were all my brothers friends, and he kinda forced them to take me along when they decided to run. He was…not very nice, growing up. He was cool and popular and they all used to call me names and cause trouble for me. But then, when everything went bad, he made sure I was safe. If they all come back for me…I don’t think I’d want to leave. I’d want Mylo to stay, he’d be safe here, but not the others. They only care about themselves.”

“I’m trying to apply for the open spot as hospital psychiatrist.” She slowly lifted her shoulders with a chuckled. Lux was glad that she was able to help Snow somehow. She had been around a lot, met a lot of different people with different personalities and stories. A lot of shit that she’s experienced and let herself be drowned in, so she learned how to deal with it and make the best out of everything. If she could, she’d offer Snow work at the Tech room. But there wasn’t really a lot she could teach Snow, aside from some Basic’s she’ll never be able to use on anything. So maybe with the training she was receiving along with Toad being a natural hunter, they could join the supply runners at some point. “There always is a point where people find out that...you have to cherish what you got. He found out later rather than sooner, but he did. That’s all that matters. This whole situation changed all of us. But I don’t think we could just...pick favorites if the group should find us. But they’ll always have a hard time if they continue only caring about themselves when you’re in an environment that has to look out for each other. I don’t doubt our people here will be able to put them in their place, don’t worry. “

Snow laughed a little at her comment, it would be nice to show everyone that some people were on her side, that she was accepted by people. Snow shuffled a little in her seat a little, feeling uncomfortable talking about the topic. She had always been told never to talk about what happened, it had caused a scandal in the medical world and the Bishop’s lawyers had managed to pay off the press and stop printing stories about it as quickly as they could. “I got sick, with a new kind of flu that they didn’t know much about. My dad’s company were working on a cure, and he told the doctors to give me the medicine, even though they hadn’t tested it properly yet. I got better…but I stopped being able to learn. My grades dropped all the way down, I couldn’t concentrate, I got upset for no reason, I couldn’t talk to people…” Snow stopped herself, hating remembering all the things she used to be able to do but no longer could. She quickly wiped away a stray tear that rolled down her cheek. “Umm, somewhere along the road, I don’t remember where exactly. We walked all the way from Miami, it was really bad over there. I found Toad under a car, he was so frightened, so I took him with me. Everyone else in the group hated him, but Mylo let me keep him. Everyone loved Mylo”

Lux listened, not saying a word or interrupting Snow as she opened up to her.  She’s been struck by tragedy, something neither she or anyone else had control over. But that only meant the fact she had gotten this far was incredible. “Snow, what happened to you..is horrible. But don’t you see how far you’ve gotten? You’ve survived all of this, you’re walking up to people and you learned how to survive. And you’re not different, okay? Life just threw a few more stones into your path, but that only makes you stronger. You’re incredibly strong, not different in a negative way. Don’t let your past define you or some stupid sickness.” She reached out to rest her hand on Snow’s, squeezing it tightly. “The group you were stuck with actually sounds pretty awful. What is your brother like? You two had a good relationship?”

Giving her a look, Travis couldn’t help himself but smirk slightly at her. She always liked to tease him, especially when he’d say or do something she wouldn’t expect. “I’m not giving you that pleasure, Lux, you heard me well.”he said, still smirking. If this was anyone else he’d get annoyed ten times already. His eyes went towards the screen again, nodding his head here and there as she explained the possibilities. “Do whatever you can which you think will help us. And if there’s anything specific you need, let me know, so we can get it. - You heard about Maelynn? The upper floor with isolation was full these days.”

“A good jam.” She repeated quietly, fist pressed against her lips. There was no way in hell he’d ever be able to live that one down. Oh no, she’d make sure of that. “Well, I kinda have another idea. But I mean...if found out, that’d suck.” She started off, placing the laptop aside to turn around on the log she had been sitting on to face him. “Uninstall one camera and put it somewhere else. Instead of linking it to the system we use for all the other cameras, I’m going to link to a new one. Which would take some time and I’d have to play around a bit, but then we’d have a clean camera. Maybe something that checks the entrances of the hospital and base from a different angle.” Her short fingers ran through her long, messy hair before her hand rested on the back of her neck as she nodded. “I know. It’s...they’re literally caged animals up there.I sneaked a protein bar in when I visited Jax. It’s a mess up there, they sit in their own blood and just hope someone will invent a fucking cure. Snow sat down next to Lux, smiling shyly at her. She listened carefully as she spoke, trying to take everything in. Snow didn’t know who to talk to about it, she was the one who had come in out of nowhere, she didn’t feel she had the right to complain about anything. Shaking her head, she said “No, I haven’t talked to anyone. Oscar just tells me to go play somewhere, like I’m a little kid or something, and Travis…well Travis is really nice to me, the nicest out of everyone, he’s really taking good care of me, but… I don’t want to get anybody in trouble. I don’t want to force people to like them because then they’ll resent me even more, does that make sense?” She paused for a second, looking down at the knitted hands, trying not to get upset, “But there is something wrong with me. My brain doesn’t work like everyone elses does. I might not be very smart, but I know that I’m different. I was just fine until I was 10 and then…everything stopped working the way it should”. She looked down at Toad, handing him his ragged teddy for him to chew on, before saying, “Dogs forgive and love everyone.  “Well, I didn’t say you should ask them to force people to like you. But you’d be surprised how fast people would stop picking on you once someone bigger tells them to stop that crap. And Travis would probably enjoy seeing their scared little faces. It’s a win win situation.” She tried to lighten the mood up a little, hands running through Toad’s fur as she smiled at Snow. “What do you mean by that? Is ..it a mental disorder or just..you feeling different? “ A lot of people probably enjoyed Toad’s company more than they’d admit. The dog had something calm and familiar. Especially for those that had lost their dogs along the way. “He’s a good dog. Where did you find him? “

“I figured, sounded like a good jam.”he mumbled, and settled down next to her, eyes moving from her to the laptop as she opened it again, revealing what she was doing as he sneaked up on her. Rubbing his hand on the stubble of his jawline, he looked to the side at her again. “Can you check the footage from the last few days? So we can see if it’s all been the same. There’s a possibility they are making us the same thing over and over again, I saw that being done before.”

“Sounded like a good jam? Oh my god, please say that again.” Lux snorted loudly, biting back the laughter at his words. Sometimes you did notice that Travis was a few years older than her. “Oh us young whippersnappers. Always enjoying a good jam.” She had caught herself fairly quickly, although a chuckle every now and then still escaped her tightly shut lips. After hitting a few keys, she lined several cameras of the last few days up to be able to look at all of them at once. “Possible. But they delete a frequence, there was a disturbance in the signal before the attack and after the attack. Then there were...random minutes missing on the third day after the attack and almost on the same day, there were parts missing again. They were smart, but not smart enough to cover the parts they deleted with a filler. The cameras at the Base must’ve been tampered as well. I checked the day Kayden went missing and they have been fucked around with as well. And I could try and get the data back...but not from my laptop. I can try and find out the IP the camera was accessed from.“
