I mean, you’d think that the time it’d take to reform pangea would be the same as the period of time it originally took. But the thing is that we can’t predict the irregularities. With new things happening every day -- fracking, I mean, stuff like that -- scientists are saying now that it might be even sooner.” They stopped long enough to take a breath and look up at Alice. “Wild, isn’t it?

               Regulus hadn’t been at the party for very long when the anxiety crept up on him. It wasn’t his own, he knew. In fact, it was very distinct and he had the vague feeling he’d felt something similar before. As he made his way through the thick crowds, he let his eyes wander for anyone that was seemingly beyond distressed. When he finally spotted the familiar curly-haired figure on the ground he knew he’d found the source of the anxiety, so he made his way over to them. Slowly, he squatted down, elbows on his knees, in front of them. “Logan? What’s wrong?” He vaguely wondered if it was the entire atmosphere of the party that was bothering them. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

When Logan glanced up to see Regulus in front of them, they immediately felt a small sense of reassurance at his presence. There was something about the boy that always made them feel comforted. He was one of the few faces that they managed to remember, and in turn, one of the few people that actually knew who Logan was. They could trust him. With that in mind, they nodded. “I need to get out of here. Too loud. Too many people. Need somewhere quiet.”

Sirius walked across the crowded room, pulling at his bead and cursing at himself. It hadn’t exactly been the best idea to start drinking in a fat-padded velvet costume. His already high body temperature was raised to the point that he had become sweat drenched and miserable. He nearly stumbled and became confused- what the hell, he wasn’t even drunk yet- and ventured a look down to find a creature that looked even more miserable than he currently was. 

It seemed that Sirius was becoming the party mother. 

He found his bearings and sunk to his knees, taking in the crumpled form of someone very small with a hell of a lot of hair. They stuck him as someone Sirius may have seen once or twice in classes or in the hallways, a face without a name. 

“Hullo there,” he said, trying his best to found friendly. “I’m Sirius, and it looks like you’re in a bit of a need for help.”

There was one thought going through Logan’s head: I want to go home. And that thought played on repeat, getting louder and louder in their mind until-- Someone was speaking to them. Jerking their head up from its position on their knees, they took in the sight of Santa Claus himself squatting on the floor, holding a menorah and sweating profusely.

"Sirius,” they repeated, taking a shallow breath. “Like the star system? You seem closer than three point-- No, two point six parsecs to the earth. Then again, it is gradually moving closer to our solar system.” All the words came flying out of their mouth rapidly and seemingly without thought. The truth of the matter was that this was Logan’s coping mechanism: Focusing in on small details and rambling to distract themself. It was effective, though whether or not it was healthy was another story.

Phaedra was moving through the crowd, a drink in her hand, she almost stumbled over someone slumped over on the floor. “Oh, gods, I’m so sorry! I don’t know what’s wrong with me today; I keep crashing into people. Are you okay?” She knelt down next to them, belatedly remembering that her sweater-dress was rather short and grabbing it so she didn’t end up inadvertently flashing the entire party. At least she hadn’t spilt her drink, by some miracle. 

Logan felt someone knock into them and didn’t react at first. After all, enough people had bumped them around that they figured it was just a normal party experience. However, upon realizing that they were being addressed, Logan lifted their head to peek out beneath their hair at who had spoken. The girl in question looked familiar, but they were terrible at remembering faces -- they all blended together. Nevertheless, they nodded slightly, and gave the quiet reply of, “no, I’m not okay. I need to leave.”

The party was loud and rowdy and drunken people kept bumping into them while attempting -- and failing -- to dance. It was everything Logan hated. The only reason they had come in the first place was out of curiosity; they’d never been to a party before. But there was no escape: The door to leave was somewhere on the other side of a mass of people, and to venture through a crowd would only make them more anxious. So, instead, they slunk to the floor and dropped their head onto their knees, wishing everything and everyone would go away.
