She said ‘Forever’, Holding a snowball in her hand. She wrote ‘Forever’, With dark ink on the ocean. She breathed ‘Forever’, And carbon monoxide smelled more purpose.
i so get that line.. i feel within the crowd all the time maybe because i am away from the crowd. i don’t know. i just want to be the way i feel. just want to speak what comes on my mind. why do i feel, no one out there will exactly know what i mean... the exact emotion, the exact feeling, the exact word. i feel so lost and lonely. somehow, something seems to be choking me inside or is it just one of those days?
it has been long since i wrote. so much goes on all the time in my head. but finding a space to confide is difficult. or you can just call me lazy. i wonder why everything that happens around me seems like such a movie! and i’m finding it hard to involve myself. because when i involve, it is painful. i can’t fake. everything is too deep. they all tell me i’m their real good friend. maybe because i listen to what they say, just as they say without judging. i get it, we all have our own shit to take care.
This world, these rules, the unseen society, binding love, incomprehensible relationships, must do obligations, the order, the rights and the wrongs of the conditioned mind, all this one side.
That look in your eyes when you look at me, that touch in your hand when you hold me, that word on the tip of your tongue which stays unsaid, and that sigh which gets heavy when we move closer, that magnetic energy that’s produced when we share the same space, and that tremble which gets etched on our beings when we move away, all this on the other side.
What’s true and what’s untrue? Nobody out here cares about a beating, bleeding heart. So what if every step I take is to meet you somewhere, somehow? So what if every word I speak is about you or for you? So what if every dream I have is to unite with you? So what if everything I am... has become you?
The story of my life has only one word - You. The story of our love is not of this world. It’s from the other world... where there are no rules, no boundaries and no conditions, where there is you and me and our love... the other love... And in all this I still seek what’s true and untrue.
I walk around all the roads And end up only at your doorstep I want to get lost in the secret alleys which lay behind your smile. When such are the thoughts that keep me occupied every moment, Stupid girl, You still ask me, Will I meet you tomorrow..?
Spending each second with you seems far too less Sharing each wish with you leaves me thirsting for more But when I look at you, I get all entangled Deep, unnerving talks get me scaring the unknown And I helplessly end up asking you every day ‘Will you meet me tomorrow?’
One of them laughs The other smiles; They appear uninhibited, Careless, carefree; They are digging in the sand Then they stop, Consult one another, then proceed. And now they’re walking hand in hand They are picking up pebbles, Sea shells, seaweed.
When the monster loved me, She would catch crayfish Take me to pools where crabs hid, Pluck berries and gaze longingly at my black eyes. It was not that I didn’t love Or could not love: I was often kind And I envied her - Her happy smile.
Will you take to the sea, my darling? Will you let me caress you? The tips of your feet, your legs, your sex? Will you let my tongue caress you? Will you lie in my arms? Will you rest?
I give her the rose with unfurled petals She smiles and crosses her legs I give her the shell with the swollen lip She laughs I bite and nuzzle her breasts I tell her – ‘Feed me on flowers - With wide open mouths.’ And slowly, She pulls down my head.
And if the sun should burn too much, If the sun is too strong, Will you walk with me to where the light is more calm? And be in me where the seas heave And are serene And heave again And are themselves?
when i head to the computer and see your face in the screen, i turn into a little girl who’s just seen her first rainbow. i get all giddy and nervous and hopeful and despairing.
i haven’t told anyone about you because it’s none of their business. i love that you know who everyone is but nobody knows who you are.
you’re simply a passive, aggressive tourniquet tied down and suffocating my only flow of happy suffices. so screw you and your toxic bewilderment. cut me down and throw me out. but don’t leave me behind your double-edged words. don’t forebode me from nightmares, when you’re the only depiction I envision at night.
And I wasn’t going to break like the things marveled by man. I am the outcome of endeavors put in by the ingenious hands of the zenithal force. It was going to require a little more than a story where it falls apart with you to break me... But darling, you make me want to be cipher to be deserving of your brilliantly intense palindrome. Baby, before you go to sleep, won’t you tell me one last time that I’m the Dante to your Beatrice? Ti amo, Aby. Eccomi Ishraq.
Hey. I am Ishraq. I come from a boundless line of poets who are now bereft of life who could never make it to the light. They continuously pester me to act in a different way so as to not turn out like they did. And I’m here to live out what they never became. I’m here to bring life to what they wrote. I’m here to render Bryon’s dying wish. I am the golden flicker in Wordsworth’s smile that blinded you. I am Sexton’s collection of tears. I am Sylvia’s anticipation when she found out about her husband’s infidelity. I am that which does justice to my mother’s cheekbones and my father’s rage. I used to be this awful character but I’m also growing. And I’m definitely not saying my last words anytime soon.
