🌦  «  gemma  chan.  cis  woman.  she/her.  40.  »  was  that  LYRA  LAU  walking  through  the  doors  of  amorelux  ?  i  heard  they  just  moved  in  to  apartment  1105  from  LOS  ANGELES,  CA  and  work  as  a  senior  law  partner.  they  seem  sharp-witted  &  persuasive  but  don’t  get  on  their  bad  side  !  they  can  be  unyielding  &  malicious  which  makes  sense  since  they’re  a  SCORPIO.  you  know  they’re  home  when  you  see  a  flash  of  red  bottomed  heels  clicking  against  the  pavement,  the  constant  need  to  survey  your  surroundings,  sickly  sweet  words  dripping  with  venom,  a  taste  for  the  finer  things.

 TLDR  :  a  high  achieving  lawyer  who  for  the  most  part  lived  a  pretty  normal  life  up  until  she  started  going  to  law  school  .  operates  as  a  sleeper  agent  along  with  her  established  career  in  law  .  posing  as  a  married  couple  and  co-parenting  with  another  agent  while  presenting  a  normal  picture-perfect  life  .  moved  from  new  york  to  seattle  to  take  on  a  position  as  senior  partner  at  a  colleague’s  law  firm  and  has  been  at  amorelux  with  her  husband  since  then  .

 echo  hums  around  the  brim  of  his  glass,  swallowing  down  the  taste  of  a  vodka  cranberry  and  erasing  the  lingering  flavor  of  the  last  mooncake  that  he  had.  ❝  oh,  for  sure.  the  floral  arrangements  definitely  look  like  they  had  to  have  been  made  a  month  or  so  in  advance  with  how  intricate  they  are.  ❞  he  glances  around  to  take  in  more  of  the  ambiance  with  silent  approval,  unable  to  keep  some  aspects  of  his  job  from  appearing  while  off  the  clock.  ❝  they  must  have  stockpiled  these  mooncakes  though.  i  don’t  think  i’ve  seen  the  table  show  signs  of  depletion.  ❞  her  comment  has  realization  settle  in  for  echo  that  he  may  have  misspoken  a  bit.  ❝  don’t  get  me  wrong,  my  frats  parties  were  most  of  what  you  expect  of  a  frat  party  or  at  least  what  you  see  in  the  movies.  i  meant  to  say  that  it  reminds  me  a  bit  of  this  fancy  brunch  i  planned  toward  the  middle  of  the  semester  of  my  senior  year,  ❞  echo  explained,  turning  to  her  wide  widened  eyes.  ❝  it  had  to  be  more  elevated  since  it  was  a  parents  weekend,  so  it  was  hosted  in  the  backyard.  the  greenery  and  finger  foods  here  just  made  me  think  of  it.  i  managed  a  pretty  killer  charcuterie  board  though,  which  is  oddly  making  me  crave  one  right  now.  ❞

          SHE  HELPS  HERSELF  TO  A  PINOT  NOIR  ,  swirling  the  contents  of  the  ruby  liquid  in  her  glass  .  “  i’m  sure  this  was  months  in  the  making  but  it’s  likely  that  these  mooncakes  were  bought  within  the  month  .  ”  eyes  shift  to  the  stacks  of  neatly  arranged  mooncakes  .  she  had  a  slight  inkling  that  it  was  the  building’s  owner  that  provided  the  abundance  of  mooncakes  .  “  but  i’m  not  complaining  .  it’s  quite  nice  that  the  event  planning  team  decided  on  this  theme  .  ”  it’s  nostalgic  of  her  childhood  .  her  attention  turns  back  to  echo  .  “  now  that  sounds  more  accurate  ,  ”  lyra  chuckles  .  “  but  i  assume  that  the  brunch  being  more  elevated  is  a  good  thing  ?  and  i  thought  i  spotted  a  charcuterie  board  at  one  of  the  tables  but  that  might  be  gone  by  now  .  ”

“As always, she was a pleasure.” the vocal coach started before pulling out her clipboard of notes, clearing her throat and cutting her eyes at the little girl before averting her gaze back to her mother. “I would recommend practicing vocal mixing at home. It seems as though Ingrid wants mix her head and chest voice, but is having difficulty with it sounding too shrill. This is her homework until we meet again.” she then flashed a quick but affirmative grin at the girl and looked up toward her mother once again. 

“Ingrid excels in her higher register and will be granted the closing solo at our winter recital. Please give her ample time to practice, encourage warm drinks and discourage speaking in a higher tone until after the recital. Clear?”

While Christy was a no-nonsense teacher, she had good intentions and always gave the ‘second mom’ vibe with her students. She wanted to see them at their very best and if that meant keeping the pleasantries for after they succeed, then that was what she would do. 

          THE  CORNERS  OF  HER  LIPS  CURL  up  into  a  polite  smile  at  the  vocal  coach’s  compliment  .  lyra  listens  intently  ,  making  mental  notes  at  the  other  woman’s  direction  .  she  glances  down  at  her  daughter  every  so  often  ,  ensuring  that  she  herself  is  also  listening  to  christy  .  after  all  ,  she  and  hanson  are  raising  her  to  be  independent  .  “  that’s  wonderful  news  ,  thank  you  .  ”  she  can  practically  feel  the  excitement  radiating  from  ingrid  .  “  what  do  you  normally  recommend  when  it  comes  to  warm  drinks  ?  ”

 there’s  a  reason  why  lyra  had  no  issue  continuing  with  ingrid’s  vocal  lessons  .  christy  proved  to  be  more  than  just  a  singer  .  she’s  someone  who  is  knowledgeable  in  her  field  .  that  in  itself  was  respectable  in  her  book  .  and  the  extra  research  she  conducted  also  helped  .  “  if  you’re  not  busy  ,  would  you  like  to  grab  a  drink  ?  there’s  a  lovely  cafe  nearby  .  ”

          SHE  GETS  UP  FROM  HER  SEAT  as  soon  as  the  barista  calls  out  her  name  .  lyra  initially  pays  no  mind  to  the  another  name  being  called  out  soon  after  .  she  grabs  the  drink  ,  immediately  noticing  what’s  written  on  her  cup  .  definitely  not  her  order  .  eyes  shift  to  [  your  muse  ]  and  starts  walking  over  to  them  .  “  pardon  me  ,  ”  she  starts  ,  smiling  politely  .  “  the  barista  seems  to  have  swapped  our  orders  .  ”  turns  the  cup  so  the  scribbled  ink  is  facing  them  .  “  i  promise  you  i  did  not  take  a  sip  out  of  it  .  ”

               (   @amoreluxstart​​   )       valerie   had   a   babysitter   for   the   night,   so   julian   figured   it   wouldn’t   hurt   to   stop   by   the   mixer   for   a   couple   hours,   meet   the   other   residents   of   the   building   and   peharps   make   some   friends.       though   he   certainly   could   try   a   little   harder;   he   simply   watches   the   people   around   him   mingle,   holding   a   glass   of   bourbon.       and,   as   if   the   universe—or   just   his   luck—was   trying   to   tell   him   something,   a   slight   bump   into   someone   and   he   spilled   his   drink   all   over   himself.       “   fuck,   ”       he   mumbles,   the   clammy   feel   of   cotton   against   skin   making   him   cringe.       “   i   didn’t   get   any   on   you,   did   i   ?   ”

          AS  MUCH  AS  LYRA  WOULD’VE  LOVED  to  be  back  in  the  comfort  of  her  apartment  spending  the  night  with  ingrid  and  hanson  ,  she  and  her  husband  were  on  a  mission  .  kind  of  .  reconnaissance  is  more  like  it  .  quick  reflexes  have  her  side  stepping  around  the  younger  man  ,  narrowly  avoiding  the  splash  zone  .  “  you’re  fine  .  ”  sets  down  her  empty  glass  and  grabs  a  couple  of  clean  napkins  .  “  i’d  recommend  blotting  the  excess  liquid  before  dabbing  it  with  cold  water  .  ”  hands  him  the  napkins  .  “  you  seem  a  little  ...  preoccupied  .  not  a  fan  of  parties  ?  ”

        hanson accepts the pastries  into a napkin ,  following up an initial bite of the snow skin mooncake with a sip of his pinot noir in his other hand .

        being in such close quarters of their immediate neighbors was sort of new to both hanson and lyra ,  who could previously reap the benefits of aloof sociality from the big apple .  but considering the close call they experienced before relocating to this side of the country ,  it’s a decent idea to scope out their neighbors and leave no room for any intrigue directed to them .  sometimes that means doing that during a  .  .  .  resident mixer .  a good opportunity .  and occasionally a delicious one ,  he notes ,  impressed with what he’s eating .

        he nods and swallows before responding ,  “  some of them .  ”  he pauses .  “  a lot of them seem to get into trouble .  what about you ?  ”

          LYRA  WOULD  BE  LYING  IF  SHE  said  she  didn’t  miss  the  hustle  and  bustle  of  new  york  .  seattle  just  didn’t  have  the  same  ring  to  it  .  the  people  are  different  .  she  liked  the  fact  that  most  kept  to  themselves  .  but  here  ?  that  doesn’t  seem  to  be  the  case  .  her  grip  tightens  around  the  stem  of  the  glass  ,  swirling  the  deep  ruby  liquid  .

 eyes  shift  from  the  crowd  back  to  her  husband  .  “  i’ve  spoken  to  a  couple  of  them  .  makes  me  feel  like  we  might  be  the  oldest  ones  living  here  ,  ”  she’ll  half  joke  .  it  makes  her  uneasy  .  another  variable  that  makes  them  to  stand  out  .  

“  you’re  not  wrong  .  they  all  seem  to  know  one  another  .  something  about  exes  .  exes  turned  roommates  ––  it’s  quite  a  predicament  .  feels  like  we  might  just  be  the  only  married  couple  here  .  ”

 ❝  i  wonder  how  long  it  took  to  plan  this  all  out.  everything  looks  so  nice.  ❞  echo  didn’t  mean  for  his  work  side  to  make  an  appearance  during  what  was  supposed  to  be  a  fun  night  of  cocktails  and  mingling  with  strangers  that  he  could  now  identify  as  neighbors.  the  attention  to  detail  was  great  and  as  someone  who  meticulously  planned  weddings  for  a  living,  he  could  appreciate  a  well-thought  out  event.  and  if  echo  had  a  variety  of  mooncakes  stacked  on  his  place  then  what  about  it  ??  ❝  minus  the  mooncakes  it  reminds  me  a  bit  of  some  of  the  spritzers  my  frat  held  in  college.  that  and  i  don’t  think  we’ll  be  seeing  anyone  passed  out  in  any  of  the  flower  bushes  or  popping  a  keg  stand.  ❞

          “  I  DON’T  DOUBT  THAT  IT  TOOK  them  months  to  plan  this  out  .  ”  eyes  survey  the  rooftop  .  every  piece  of  decoration  had  a  purpose  .  food  and  beverage  were  meticulously  planned  out  .  truth  be  told  ,  lyra  was  half  expecting  a  cheeseboard  and  some  wine  neatly  arranged  on  a  table  at  the  corner  of  a  room  .  but  she  shouldn’t  judge  too  harshly  .  after  all  ,  her  family  was  still  relatively  new  to  the  building  .  brows  raise  slightly  at  the  other’s  choice  of  words  .  “  i  don’t  know  if  i  can  agree  with  you  on  that  .  this  feels  a  little  too  ...  elevated  for  a  frat’s  taste  ,  ”  she’ll  lightly  jest  .  “  but  what  exactly  reminds  you  of  them  ?  ”

          SHE  APPROACHES  THE  BUILDING  JUST  AS  she  spots  a  car  speeding  off  .  and  by  the  looks  of  it  ?  it  did  not  go  well  for  the  younger  woman  standing  at  the  entrance  of  the  apartment  complex  .  “  i  can’t  exactly  answer  that  ,  ”  she  starts  ,  holding  out  her  umbrella  slightly  so  that  it’s  covering  the  both  of  them  .  “  but  i  don’t  think  standing  out  here  is  going  to  make  it  any  better  .  what  happened  ?  if  you  don’t  mind  me  asking  .  ”
