Introductions: First Meeting
Standing beside Cade was a petite woman holding a giant box. She must have been in the process of moving in because he had never seen her before. He was unable to see her face and she hadn’t said anything yet. Did she even notice him? He thought about offering to hold the box, but she set off a mood that she didn’t want to be helped. Standing in the elevator quietly with his arms folded across his chest he waited for this awkward journey to be over. The elevator doors shut and right as they did so there was a loud crash. All of the contents of that were in the box had spilled around their feet.
Cade immediately dropped to his knees and began gathering her stuff. “Are you alright?,” he looked up at the brunette girl who wore an expression of embarrassment and fear. He began carefully placing the items back into the box that would now need to be carefully lifted up if they didn’t want a repeat of what had just happened. Glancing up at the girl, Cade still hadn’t gotten an answer. “No need to be embarrassed,” he shook his head because he was sure that was the reason that she had been so silent. “The same thing happened to me when I first moved in.”
It all happen so fast that Lyric wasn't sure what to do at first other than just stand there. Her eyes traveling from the box that was still in her hands and the heap of stuff that was now on the floor of the elevator. This was so not happening to her right now and yet it was. She knew all of this was too good to be true. The idea of a twenty year old girl who can't speak moving into her own place with no one in her life to help wasn't a good one. At least that's what everyone was telling her; however, Lyric was determined to be independent. Her whole life had been about doing what others wanted. It was time for that to change. She just didn't think things would be start right off being difficult.
Sensing movement coming from the side of her Lyric looked over to find the man who had entered the elevator after her dropping to his knees. When he started picking up her stuff Lyric was sure that her mouth had fallen open. Now on top of being embarrassed by what had just happen she was also feeling guilty for having this stranger help her. With a quick nod of her head she answered his question. Following that she placed the box down so that she could help with picking everything up. When the man spoke again to her Lyric wasn't sure what to do. She could try talking to him with sign language or type something up on her phone. Thinking it best to use her phone she pulled it out of her pocket and hastily type up a message. {Thank you for helping me. I wasn't expecting this to happen. Really? That's comforting to know.} Once she had finished typing up her message Lyric handed the phone over to the man.
Before we can speak, we perceive. When we learn to talk is when we begin to stop seeing things for what they really are, we rarely stop and ponder our most invigorating moments.

Introductions: First Meeting
This week had been busy for Cade. He was keeping up with the maintenance of his family’s pawn shop, and was still finding the right words to say whenever a regular customer came in and asked where his father was after not stopping by for months. The work had been difficult, but after hiring new staff and tidying up a bit the place looked presentable again. His sisters was coming to town in two weeks and he wanted her to see all the hard work he had put into the shop to restore it back to the way it looked when they were children.
Cade pulled the mail out of his small mailbox, fingering through bills and the occasional condolence letter that still came for his father, Annie, or both. He shoved the envelopes in his back pocket as he headed towards the elevator. There was a woman inside, one he had never seen before. She was fumbling with a box that covered her from head to waist. The doors began to shut and Cade sped up to a light jog to make it to the elevator. “Hey! Hold it right there,” he stuck his foot in the doors which stopped it from closing. He stood at the back of the elevator next to the mysterious woman.
Pushing the number three button wasn't the easiest thing to do when you have your hands full with an over sized box. Some how though, Lyric was able to get her finger on the button. Right at the same time just as the doors started to close she heard a voice call out. Unable to see if they were talking to her or someone else Lyric stepped back just in case they were yelling for her to hold the elevator. It was the best she could do with her being at a disadvantage of not being able to see.
When the door didn't close right away she knew then that the man was calling out for her to hold the elevator. Now she was no longer alone and that wasn't what she was hoping for when she entered the elevator. It was bad enough that she couldn't see who had joined her. Add that to her not being able to speak and this was the leading to a disaster just waiting to happen. Positioning herself into the corner, Lyric did her best to become invisible. It was only three floors after all. What could possibly go wrong in that short amount of time? Sensing her grip on the box becoming loose Lyric realized a lot just before dropping the box.
Introductions: First Meeting
With this day, or more like this weekend finally coming to an end Lyric found herself smiling for the first time. While it all hadn't gone off without a hitch she couldn't help being happy with how everything turned out. After weeks of waiting for this day to arrive it was here and she was now about to start the big adventure of living on her own. Two years with a roommate in the college dorms had taught her one thing; that she was not meant to share a living space with anyone.
Just three floors, one hall and then she'd be able to rest for the rest of the night. Unpacking could wait until tomorrow; however, dinner could not. Going over the list of places she'd found online that she could order from Lyric stepped on to the elevator holding the last box from the moving truck. Now to just push the button for the third floor and she'd be all set.
