There is a constant battle,

A never-ending struggle,

Between your heart

And your mind

One bellows self-preservation

The other begs you to be kind

I don’t know, but it’s been said:

Your heart is stronger than your head—

And it might be true,

Considering the many times it broke and bled

But another saying goes,

“Your mindset is your greatest asset.”

That might be true as well, I bet

Yet you know what’s really neat?

It’s when they don’t have to compete

I seem to always want to understand,

Want to know where people are coming from,

Follow their thought processes

Ask myself how I would react,

If it was I in their place

Never did I stop to think,

Would they offer me the same benefit?

I used to lose sleep, overthink

Instead of counting sheep,

I was recounting conversations—

Recalling, reevaluating

Every interaction, action and inaction

I though held a deeper meaning

Did I say too little, maybe too much?

Was I too loud, or annoying as fuck?

Would they want to hang out again?

Or did I drain them, burned them out?

These thoughts floated overhead,

Instead of sleeping, this preoccupied me in bed

Until one day my subconscious whispered,

"There is peace in not knowing,

For your own sanity,

Learn to let things be"

Hello all! I've been quiet for a while but I'd like to share that I have finished my first book of poem compilations. Nothing grand– just a collection of my life experiences; just self-published. I haven't sold any copies yet but I have gifted a few to friends. Now working on Volume II. That's all for now. Cheers!
