Gold ring ornamented with memento mori motifs. The passage in the opened book reads ‘’t Leven is mijn Christi, Sterven is mijn Gewin’ (For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain), inscribed on the inside of the ring is: ‘ons leven is een schadú op aerde’ (our life on earth is a shadow). Northern Netherlands, c. 1620-1650 (via).
