The duffer brothers saying the most important message to get out into the world is your crush won't always like you back in the context of byler is honest to god insulting. Especially when you hear it's supposed to be based on their own experiences of their crushes not working out. Why would this be the moral of a queer love story in your show, if it based on your experience as a straight man - why not put it in a storyline of two straight characters? If Will accepting his love for Mike will never be reciprocated is the most 'realistic' way of things, why do none of the straight couples get the same treatment? Not even going to touch the fact that Wills LOVE for Mike was downsized to a easily digestible crush for the GA, and the fact that Will apparently 'got over it' in one day after being shown he will never be accepted for who he is by Vecna, basically abandoning all hope, and THAT was supposed to be the uplifting and revolutionary scene they promised the queer audience. I might have to make another post about this coming out scene, because it was such a cheap cop-out and honestly, really harmful for the whole community (the outsiders and freaks are NOT being sheltered or comforted by this show rn).

(I will say, the 'your crush won't always like you' might have been hinted at during the steve/robin storyline and dustin/max/lucas love triangle but even saying that makes you realize how differently those storylines were treated by the writers and not made out to be some kind of revelation and didn't absolutely obliterate these characters arcs!! This is some evil shit especially with how homophobic the fandom has gotten and how much byler was hinted by the writers)
