Otherhearted: identifying strongly with, but not as, something nonhuman or fictional. The thing you identify with is your hearttype. Hearttypes are often described as feeling "like family," a strong connection and resonance, etc. See also: kith, synpath (both usually defined identically; all three arose separately at around the same time and otherhearted became the most commonly seen).

Hearthome: a place, real or fictional, that feels "like home" to you, typically despite you never having lived or spent a significant amount of time there. I did a panel on this at Othercon 2024!

Archetrope: an alterhuman label for identifying with and/or as an archetype, trope, stock character, etc., often an archetype that you aspire to embody in your daily life. Vyt did a panel on this at Othercon 2023!

Paratype: an identity facet that only exists in relation to a preestablished identity. (For example, feeling a strong connection to dinosaurs because they evoke your draconity.)

Furry lifestyler: a person whose involvement in the furry fandom significantly affects their life and lifestyle and who deliberately embodies it in their daily life, such as by practicing walking in a faux-digitigrade stance or spending a lot of time doing activities their fursona would do. (See also this link.)

Kardiatype/Empeiratype: a past life that's still important to how you see yourself today, but which you do not currently identify as. Ryuu and Daski did a panel on this at Othercon 2024!

The furry lifestyler one always interests me because yeah...some believe very strongly that they are their fursona or at least are heavily spiritually linked to their fursona.

They enjoy animal-coded activities and would happily say they are {fursona animal}. Some even believe their fursona species to be involuntary. Alterhumanity sure is varied and interesting.

I mean it, I know someone who is a furry lifestyler and everyone knows her as and refers to her as the species of her fursona, which she seeks to embody not just in personality but in actions of that species. She just is a chinchilla.

I would honestly have a hard time telling the difference between a furry lifestyler and a therian who is also a furry if they didn't display any labels and I was just observing them acting animalistic whilst suited up or not and when asked they said 'yeah I'm a wolf 24/7 basically' when asked.

Does it even matter if the lifestyler chose their fursona? No. Does it matter that they still might experience a separation between themselves and the fursona in some way? No. Would it be my right to say 'well if you in any way identify as an animal you're therian/otherkin!' also no.

No matter how close I think their identity is to such.

Anyway whenever you get hot and bothered and your fur/feathers/scales/hair etc start prickling at the idea that furries are alterhuman remember it means the ones who are embodying their fursona species i.e. are in some way animals too.
