I drew this piece in 2019, and although I can see lots of mistakes and imperfections, it's still one of my favourite artworks

i found some photos from 1955 of an exhibit of the set of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea:
Source: Disney and more: Rare 1955 Disneyland 20000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit View-Master Color Pictures
i think it's pretty cool !! seeing these sets unpopulated, and from a different angle. i'm keeping these because they might help me incase i decide to draw anything for this movie :]

The locks were turned, the door opened, and the steward appeared.
Before I could rush forward to stop him, the Canadian had thrown him down, and held him by the throat. The steward was choking under the grip of his powerful hand.
Conseil was already trying to unclasp the harpooner’s hand from his half-suffocated victim, and I was going to fly to the rescue, when suddenly I was nailed to the spot by hearing these words in French—
“Be quiet, Master Land; and you, Professor, will you be so good as to listen to me?”
It was the commander of the vessel who thus spoke.

the character names is one of the funniest things in 20kluts to me and it has no reason to be.
like take conseil: in the english version you just think ok that’s his name but like. it’s a french word. okay cool a lot of names are words. however the book itself was originally french. they are canonically speaking french throughout the whole thing. like imagine aronnax musing to himself like “hm. i must get advice for this matter” and conseil showing up in the room out of nowhere like “master called?” and then half the time his advice is just “I dont know I don’t really have a stake in this. check out this interesting fish.” it’s like having a character named hope and having the other characters talk about needing to have hope (concept)while hope (character) is standing right next to them.
and then we have ned land. the man who wants to get the fuck out of the ocean and back on solid ground. and his last name is land.
captain nemo is also funny but that one was chosen by him and he has reasons for it so like… it’s not as funny as the others ngl
Attempt at the apple core thing with Nemo and Pierre
Loveeee the line colouring but boy is it annoying to do <333
When I say I want to meet my future spouse the "old fashioned way" what I mean is: I wish to be in a shipwreck caused by the creature (presumably some unnaturally large narwal) I have been searching for, only to discover that it is in fact the most incredible submarine(!!) and then get saved from the icy waters by it enigmatic captain with whom I fall desperately in love despite knowing it can never be for I am their captive in all but name.
