Ayurveda 101: An Introduction

Do you know what Ayurveda is? Ayurveda translates into English as "The knowledge of Life." It is considered to be one of the oldest medical systems in the world. The basic structure of this system is the balancing of the mind, body, and spirit. The basis of the medicine is holistic in nature as are the therapies that are used. Our product is ayurvedic because it uses natural ingredients that support the long term health of hair. But we feel that healthy hair is more than shampoo and oil. It is a life style. The view in Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science of medicine, is that all of nature—including us—is bound by the relationships among the three doshas, or primal energies. Vata dosha is associated with the elements air and ether; it governs creativity and change, and tends to wax and wane. Governed by fire and water, pitta dosha is the energy of transformation, achievement, and metabolism. Kapha dosha is associated with earth and water; it suggests groundedness, stability, and growth.

Ayurveda & Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a healing process that uses essential oils to correspond with each of the three Doshas.

Start Your Morning With This Ayurvedic Breakfast

Good morning! Did you eat your breakfast yet this morning? Why not try this Ayurvedic Power Drink from Ayurvedic Yogi .

According to this blog breakfast is an essential meal for Vata and Pitta types. Kapha types may not be hungry until later in the morning and should wait for genuine hunger before eating. 

Check out the Power Drink recipe below: 

What is in it? Peeled almonds (rejuvenating), pistachios (tonifying), cashews (magnesium rich), dates (strengthen liver, used to treat alcoholics!); raisins (balance doshas).

This drink is good at any time of the day or night! Soak nuts and dried fruit overnight or for at least two hours. Blend with ‘milk’ (or water used to soak) till chewy. Add rosewater, cardamon powder (sweet, calms, stimulates digestion) and saffron (cooling, tonifying, good for women, balances all doshas). Try ground fennel seeds (sweet, digestive, tones stomach) instead of saffron. You can add ’sweetener’ according to taste though the dates are already sweet.
