Today, we are VERY pleased to announce the opening of Great God Grove's very own YURI ZINE, hosted by @maarshmint and @mcmonstructuk, otherwise known as the Fireflies of the Setting Sun zine!!
What is the FOTSS zine?
The Fireflies of the Setting Sun zine is a zine made to focus on the less appreciated yuri ships within the Great God Grove fandom! As such, we ask that you please refrain from submitting anything that involves gender swapped yaoi ships (such as Inspekchin, Lovestory, etc etc). While we always love and appreciate things such as trans headcanons, we would rather focus on those in canon that often get left out. If we were to allow gender swapped ships, then I fear we would just run into the same issue once again of gender-swapped yaoi dominating this zine. Ships we would love to see in this zine includes: Pattypoke, Missyking, Razzking, Lulurazz, Cornflower (Pattycob), Prankcall (Cobimug), etc etc!
When will submissions open?
Submissions will be opening on June 5th!
How long will we have?
Three months! Submissions will close on September 5th!
I will include a small (P)FAQ with extra details below the cut for any interested in participating!
What can I submit?
We will be accepting both written and visual submissions! This includes both digital art and traditional art! Digital art pieces must be at LEAST 1700 x 2200 with at LEAST 300 dpi. You may submit using any format, but PNG is preferred. For physical pieces, we ask that they are JPEGs with multiple angles of your work. Written pieces must be 500-1,000 words. If longer, please link a google doc/AO3 with the writing.
Is there a theme?
Not necessarily! All we ask that your piece either includes a yuri ship, OR, a piece with a character(s) expressing their connection to sapphic identities. Poly ships are also welcomed! As long as your piece relates to sapphism/lesbianism in any way, you're good to go! It doesn't JUST need to be ships!
Will this be physically printed?
Maybe. If there is enough interest, we can potentially look at prints, but there is no guarantee. It depends on if we have the means to get it done! HOWEVER. Please note that a fee will need to be paid if physical versions do release!
What kind of art will be allowed?
As long as it's kept 13+, anything! Non-sexual nudity IS allowed, but anything NSFW is NOT. This goes for writing too.
How many pieces can I submit?
As many as you like!
Can I submit pre-existing pieces?
Yes! Please just be sure to note that it's an art piece you made before the zine so we can prioritize any new pieces we receive.
Can I post my submission on social media early?
Yes! We will not make anyone wait to post their submissions to any social media accounts. If you would rather wait for the zine to be released, then go for it! If you want to post your stuff before the zine's release, then feel free to! It's entirely up to you!
If you choose to post your work to any socials, please use #Fireflies of the Setting Sun Zine and/or #FOTSS Zine in your work so we can find and reblog it! Also feel free to tag this account in your post too so we have a higher chance at seeing it!
Why Fireflies of the Setting Sun?
We thought fireflies were a perfect representation for the yuri ships within fandom spaces. Fireflies are small but bright, just as yuri ships are small (underrepresented) but still have their own light to them that fandom wouldn't be the same without. Not only that, but they're usually only seen after dark! Which follows our sunset theme wonderfully! And of course, the sunset is there to represent the lesbian flag :}

Meet my Great God Grove Godpoke Sona (oc???)
Her name is Kool Hat, and she uses she\it
Poor gal just trying to return the Megapon, but ends up as a temporal godpoke :[
Unfortunately, it also has dyslexia; Letters in it's words usually swap places when Kool talks, so it doesn't talk much

Her fullbody + couple of facts are below<3 (+ King & Razz)
✧ Kool doesn't look like King, but they have a lot of similar elements in clothes, that make people compare them
✧ Kool hates that, cuz it's jealous that King is taller
✧ Kool is cat coded, she can purr, always lands on her feet, and HATES water
✧ Kool mostly walks on two legs, but in some cases it can run on all fours, which is much faster
✧ Kool also has pretty sensitive ears, and is dazzled by loud sounds
as the god of eloquence, when King talks, she can convey her exact meaning without language or other communication barriers. this also means its very difficult (but not impossible) for her to lie to or deceive anyone. this may have been influenced by the circumstances surrounding her ascension.
i wanted to try making pokémon teams for the characters with my very minimal knowledge of pokémon and made this …maybe i’ll draw the rest later if i have time
After ascending, King gained the ability to understand all forms of communication.
On a similar vein, Click Clack can understand any written word (as long as it's in the form of a story), Thespius can understand any language deemed a "romantic" or "love" language (or if the words are sung to music), and Bauhauzzo can understand any historical text. HuzzleMug has to work to understand past languages, but it instantly knows any that have been invented since it ascended.
