Yes this is what I heard at least. When he first made the series and he made a poll after Gray confessed to Lucy through Genimi and turned out Natsu had a higher popularity so he changed the canon.

P.s I respect literally everyone's opinions. I'm never gonna try and argue with anyone's views on this lovely anime. Everyone has their own unique view on things. I truly believe that.

It actually got me thinking.
I remember when I first started watching Fairy Tail a long time ago, I genuinely felt these two had a cool vibe goin on. Gray had a crush on her. We got to know this when Gemini spilled the beans ( Gemini's got no chill ). But other than that, they were/are? So adorable together?
He followed her to make sure she got home safe. He was also SUPER upset when they thought Lucy left Fairy Tail for good. I remember a scene where Lucy was fleeing from Edolas Erza and her army when our real team crashed the party. He ran up to her and asked her if she was okay and I just found that SOOOO cute. He was always looking out for her. It crushed him to speak rudely to Lucy despite it being all a part of larger plan. He ran to her after Minerva beat the crap out of her. The 100 year quest chapter where the both of them freaked out over their Edolas versions having children and then poking fun at eachother + him giving her his jacket.
Idk man. I know it's a tight friendship. I do know that. It's just.....they got along so well almost immediately and they have such a beautiful relationship.
I remember hoping these two would end up getting closer but dun dun dun......Natsu came along and changed everything for me and Natsu's and Lucy's relationship got so much more interesting. Juvia well. I don't know? I love her but some part of me still feels Lucy would've been a more interesting choice for Gray.
BUT I love Juvia so it doesn't matter. She's such a fun character. Strong and powerful with cute and entertaining. LOYAL AS HELL. Those two are adorable af too.
Now, I love Natsu and Lucy. I love Gray and Juvia. Everyone's adorable in Fairy Tail.

Juvia's character traits isn't sitting for Gray. gray has loved Lucy since the very beginning, while Juvia's calling him SAMA really get on my nerves its like shes inferior comparing to him.
On the contrary, Gray is so relaxed and can be his true self with Lucy.
