As if this was a deliberate choice by Mika Pikazo. FE protag with red/blue design to match the switch joy cons has been rumored for a long time. The character looks fine (still better than Corrin) but people are shitting on the artist when they're one of the best around. Can you say your designs are being used in a franchise that will sell millions of copies worldwide? No? I didn't think so.

Just like with Byleth, everyone is gonna complain and moan and then the game will drop and people will shut their mouths.

Complain all you want but don't go yelling at the artist on Twitter. You're just being an asshole.

And as if a bunch of other artists who have also designed characters for other works haven't also designed some vtuber rigs. Fuke Ryouhei worked in Black Rock Shooter, the Steins;Gate VNs, and Metal Gear, and also designed Takahashi Kiara. Kurokoshi Kouhaku worked in Fate/Grand Order and Azur Lane and also designed Ninomae Ina'nis. Ouro Kronii was designed by fucking Wada Arco.

Mika Pikazo is an amazing artist, and you could argue that her style, a very distinct and colorful futuristic/street/pop style, simply doesn't fit Fire Emblem (and I would definitely agree), but attacking Mika for design choices most likely imposed from above and derogatorily calling her a "vtuber designer" (despite her only having created the designs for 3 vtubers) while she's very much known for her other work is just shitty.

Hiya! Im sure u probably get this alot but,, how do u deal with artblock? Lately ive been in a p big slump, not only do i flat just not like most of my art but im also running low on inspiration and ideas. And for some reason this on feels much longer than my usual blocks. Your stuff is really inspiring so i wanna hear your take on it!

However, there’s a thing I’ve been thinking a long time, but I’ve never written about:

What even IS Art Block?

How I see it, is that our learning curve doesn’t work in a constant pattern. There is a significant time period between when we see better, and when we draw better. This is what in the art is called “Art Block”.

It’s not just art where this happens. Art is a skill, and this happens with every single skill you practice. I have similar “blocks” when playing a viola and most extremely when doing martial arts. Every couple months I have a period of time when I feel like every single thing I’m trying, every single move I’m struggling through doesn’t come out how it should. Even worse, I feel like I have forgotten even the things that I was able to do before. 

THE TRUTH IS you’re not doing worse. You’re doing just as well as you did couple weeks ago. The only difference is that you BRAIN has learned to do things better, but your MUSCLE MEMORY hasn’t yet caught up with the new information. The bigger step you’re taking, the bigger block you’re having.

So what’s the answer to get over Art Block?

Cringe your teeth together and keep drawing. Even if it looks HORRIBLE just keep going. Your arm just have to learn what your brain knows already, and only way to teach it is to make it work for it. :)
