The idea is awesome and I imagine :
The same thing but pre-reveal, like somehow the two organisations came into contact, or knew eachother prior but never mentioned it and after weighing eachother's agenda and realising they didn't clash.
Crazy shenanigans ensues, like if nightfall's the first to be transferred and to know of thorn Princess and Hemlock of Twilight.
Or even crazier scenarios where the best of each organisations are sent to the other as some sort of "seminary learning x and y" (twilight would of course go into garden with a fake identity and face but it would be funny if he noticed Yor at some point and started sweating profusely)
Of course It'd be weird to justify as a pre reveal thing (not for long at least) but the shenanigans (like maybe they did a truce and decided never to attack eachother's agents for the knowledge of each's forte and how to get better at their respective jobs) and weird situations it could result in would be gold
I'll leave on this little paragraph (edit : this became a bit bigger than a single paragraph 🙏) of what the idea I envision could be like:
"I'd recommend more training, as soon as possible, all weak, all frail, more than the average civilian but still far from strong, I have nothing to learn from those 'play pretend' peoples and their toys." Hemlock began his report in a stern tone to Shopkeeper after his first week.
Shopkeeper, lifted his hand, gestured for him to stop, then waited a few seconds before speaking "Hemlock, I ask of you to be patient with them, you weren't sent in their care to get better at slicing your opponents or to get physically stronger, I've sent you there to improve your coordination skills with others, someone other than yourself, As of today, I am still unable to give you an assignment that requires any amount of cooperation, what I request of you with this mission is to take one of your biggest weakness and to hone it until it becomes a strength, only then will i reconsider reintroducing you to new assignments."
He continued "Besides, I'm sure you haven't seen everything they've had to offer yet, this is still the first week and I've heard that an interesting agent will likely make his appearance in the following days, someone that could probably still surprise you." He stayed patient with Hemlock, his expression exuded of calmness and a tinge of warmth, though he stayed mostly neutral.
Hemlock has always been one of the more closed garden members and he knew it, he didn't spare anyone a glance more than necessary, he would never get human relationships, they were a loss of time, money, energy but especially mental fortitude, deep inside he still knew Yor was growing weak because of her doing the 'lovey dovey' with her husband (he gagged a little at the thought), he just still wasn't strong enough to prove it yet.
Except Gimpy, Gimpy was nice, he's to the point, never asks more questions than necessary, never overstays his welcome too, and also he's cool, Hemlock likes gimpy.
The Wise handler gave him the creeps, he never felt weird like that before but he still refrained from mentioning it to his superior, he wondered why everyone called her by her title only, but she definitely was the one that left the biggest impression on him during his short week, and after he was given an earful on the third day for his behaviour, (unsheathing his sword and provoking an employee in duel for being annoying during his tea break apparently considered out of line) he recognised that she knew how to fend for herself and her peoples, he had to give her that, even if he himself considered the weak as dead weight, his respect for her slightly grew because of it, though he lost sword privileges in the building.
He pondered about the familiarities between her and his leader as he watched an interaction between her and one of the newbies spies from afar, how despite their cold and stern facades, despite all these talks about staying at an arm's length and not getting attached, there always was this small but distinguishable, impossible to hide, deep care for their peoples, no matter what they said.
There are smiles you simply can't fake.
Hemlock felt a tinge of warmth at the thought...he scoffed, scolding himself for it.
Yeah, "scolding himself" just before realising he was doing the same thing, you dumass
I've thought about it and after reconsideration it kinda became "what if hemlock was sent into Wise's care instead of town hall"
I also write hemlock as a sort of Blend between Nightfall's succinct and Yuri's petty(though more of the latter) with a bit of lying to himself about how much he really hates connecting to peoples sprinkled on top.
This was just a little mockup of what Hemlock's POV would look like in a bigger story that'd also include the ideas mentioned in the beginning and then some.
As I said earlier, the reveal wouldn't be far into the story else it'd be hard to justify just how is no one making connections between thorn princess and twilight and the redundancy of people around them in their daily lives (but that'd be funny too so who knows)
Lots of things been bubbling in my mind regarding this idea but I'll stop myself here else this post will be way too long, keeping a bit for myself for now
Also, yes, if he's nice Sylvia might let him carry a knife inside the building.
(all criticisms welcomed, recommended, even.)
