@machiavillainus said ; “Merry Christmas, Holmes,” Moriarty smiles, passing a nicely wrapped gift to him. It’s nothing special other than a well-made timepiece that bears a prestigious brand, but it’s truly the best she can offer other than a well-planned crime for him to solve.

His previous attention fixed on his papers suddenly shifted as soon as his eyes met a neatly wrapped box being extended towards his direction. Looking up, Sherlock´s eyes unexpectedly met those of professor Moriarty with an intriguing nature. Was the woman actually offering the detective a gift? it was true that in the past, Moriarty had been without a doubt, Sherlock´s most notorious nemesis, a woman whose intelligence he admired and respected probably the same as she did regarding his, yet their differences from the past did no longer matter as the two were faced into a completely different time, now working under the same roof and for a greater good.

Lifting up his eyebrows with a newly found interest, the young man took hold of the box carefully in between his gloved hands as he stared up at Moriarty again for a brief moment, almost as if expecting for her to have confused the receiver of the gift. Only once Moriarty wished him a merry Christmas did the detective finally began to carefully unwrap the present, his characteristic curve of lips now slowly intensifying as he certainly found the whole idea of his previous nemesis gifting him a present very amusing.

Once the man was able to take away the neatly wrapped paper, his eyes faced an elegant and quite luxurious looking pocket watch. The gift was certainly something he would have expected out of her considering just how refined her tastes usually were, yet Sherlock couldn´t quite get out of his mind the thought of how much that would have cost her.

A genuine smile now fully graced his thin lips as he held the pocket watch as carefully as if it was a feather, his stern gaze slowly softening as he stared down at her before stating his gratitude in a low sincere tone of voice;

“I truly am grateful over your thoughtful gift madam Moriarty, I do not feel worthy of such an intricate present… yet I hold this object an unmeasurable value as it comes from your very own spirit.” Sherlock spoke with a warm feeling inside his heart as he then proceeded to take off his glove, in order to delicately hold her hand in his as he then placed a polite kiss over the top of her hand;

“Thank you…Merry Christmas to you as well Madam Moriarty”

But as every good Victorian gentleman ought to do, Holmes relinquished his seat to her, thus she primly smooths her skirt before making herself comfortable for the few minutes that Holmes beckoned her to. Miss Moriarty — it’s a right unfortunate missive on Holmes’s part to liken her to some little girl who needed to be called a ‘young miss’ simply because of her youthful looks, but Moriarty, above all, did not want to cause a fight over something so small when it’s already nearing Christmastide.

It’d simply bring horrid luck if she were to start being petty.

“So what is the urgency, Holmes?” she asks, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear so as to properly prepare herself to give her full attention. Whether she liked it or not, it would most probably be something worthwhile, given that it’s Holmes himself specifically asking for her company. A block in thought? A few inquiries?

Because God forbid this be a waste of her time.

“ I know… That is why both of us are here at this hour isn´t it?” Sherlock replied rather sarcastically as a little smile slipped through his lips before continuing to prepare two cups of tea, of course, one of them being for her.

Placing the two cups of tea over the trail, Sherlock walked over where Moriarty´s was, his modals almost resembling those of a butler as he gently placed the trail on top of the wooden table where she was currently sitting in front of.

Only once Sherlock took a seat could the detective finally relax his shoulders as he carefully took hold of the little plate alongside the cup of tea in between gloved fingers. His cold stare now slowly softening over the sight of the sugar dissolving on his cup of tea as he then, raised his gaze once again, this time directing it towards Moriarty.

“ Tell me, Madam Moriarty…What is it that may be troubling that brilliant mind of yours?”

“ THANK YOU KINDLY, “ Moriarty says absently, retrieving her cup of tea while taking it as she always does — as it is, sans milk or sugar. Tea should be as bitter as wormwood; sharp as a double-edged sword, and she truly wouldn’t have it any other way, lest she feel like a horribly sweetened mess before bed.

But of course, on the topic at hand, she and Holmes were never the types to sleep early, having constantly a myriad of things dancing about in their respective heads and mind palaces. She drinks her tea like how every good Victorian lady ought to; a far cry from how she would usually drink it during her tenure as a professor in Durham. Alternating between Professor Moriarty and Lady Moriarty was as easy as breathing to her, and yet, it isn’t the highlight of tonight’s disturbances.

“ I truly can’t say, “ she speaks honestly, looking up at Holmes’s steely gray eyes with a cold, yet rather tired glint. “ You of all people ought to know that staying up needn’t necessarily generate a reason for it; it’s the melancholy, I suppose. There’s nothing to do here. Absolutely nothing. “

And that’s probably what ails both of their brilliant minds; a severe lack of stimulation. It’s utterly rubbish as to how the world chooses to end itself now, and the cacophony of a myriad of Servants bustling about nearly drove her mad on many an occasion.

It was a fact that servants did not need to eat or sleep in order to gain energy, yet they certainly needed mana as a way to properly function as heroic spirits. As of now, their master alongside the rest of the servants have finished their second battle and were currently back in Chaldea, yet even though the facility provided mana for to the servants, this time there was an issue around which managed to make the usual distribution of mana fail in response. This, of course, made the poor Sherlock, who was not only injured but also exhausted from the battles feel even worse.

The man himself was currently in the infirmary, resting against his own will as he stubbornly tried to escape at least two times from his current state of rest in order to get back to work once again. To add to the fact that he didn´t have his papers nor his pipe to keep his mind stimulated, there also wasn´t anyone in the room, the perfect opportunity to fall into melancholy—- yet those thoughts suddenly vanished as soon as he heard the door of the infirmary slowly opening, only to reveal the person he would have expected the less to appear.

Without a doubt, the visitor was Professor Moriarty, or in other words, his nemesis from a long time ago.

As he saw her walking towards his bed, Sherlock wasn´t exactly sure over why Moriarty had decided to come to pay him a visit. In a way, the two were no longer enemies in the most strict of terms in Sherlock´s opinion as they both now worked together for a greater good, so there was no need for him to get absolutely worked out over being in the same room as his “enemy”. Before he could even get to process all the information and come up with a response to his own question, the woman suddenly offered what appeared to be a…

Hot bowl of…Chicken soup??

The first thought that crossed his mind was just how curious of a woman she was, second, if she could have poisoned the soup, and third; a response to his own second statement. Sitting up straight, the once stubborn man carefully held the bowl of soup in between his long and cold fingers, his eyes observing its surface before he looked up at Moriarty, a little sly smirk slowly crawling up his thin lips;

“ It seems that after all, you do care about me, Madame Moriarty…”

“ OH, YOU POOR, POOR THING. “

That statement alone was condescending enough, and in place of her earlier concerned expression over how horribly battered her nemesis was, a demeaning smirk tugs at the corners of her lips. It could very well mean anything and everything, or anything and nothing, but she takes the bowl of soup away from his slender, tip-callused fingers to hold it herself; God forbid he be foolish enough to splatter it all over himself and stay longer in the infirmary for burns.

“ Nobody to attend to you, hm, Holmes? “ Moriarty asks in faux worry, almost as if she’s making fun of him being so utterly simple! “ Don’t you wish that the good doctor was here so that you may stop dancing around the possibility that I’d hammer the final nail on your coffin? For you know, soup’s a good way to go; to go in your sleep is a lot better. “

But of course, she didn’t mean anything she said; English chicken soups taste absolutely horrible, thus she quickly recalled from the compartments of her mind a particular recipe from the opium dens in London. The Chinese were very good in their soups; the herbal and restorative properties remain while the lovely bits of chicken broth flourish in flavour, and as she cools a fresh spoonful of soup, she brings it to Holmes’s lips slowly.

“ No tobacco until you’re better, “ she chides.

Had it been anyone else, she would have continued being cordial, but seeing as it was HOLMES of all people, she nearly bristles. Distaste clouds her judgment; she could either see it as Holmes flaunting an asset of his over her that she truly couldn’t help (because how does one simply get taller?), or that he was the very epitome of British gentility with the intention to ask before helping so as to not bruise her pride.

Yet, Moriarty moves, looking away with a small huff; if he wants to help so bad, then she’d let him.

“.....Fetch me that arithmetic treaty from the seventh shelf, Holmes.”
