Letting out a sigh, Xavier lifted his shoulders in a shrug. It was his first shift since his second time in hospital and the bills from those two visits were enough to need him to work for years. “Medical bills, I don’t wanna use the family money ‘cause what if dad decides to cut us off, you know?” 

“oh right.” she quickly responded, “hey xavi,” she called out to him after a moment of silence and watching her friend do his bartending duties. “You do know I’m a certified med student who can get you the drugs at a much cheaper cost right?”

“Not exactly.” he admitted with a small shrug. “It wasn’t forced by someone’s lack of nerves, it was set up. So, not technically a cat fight.” 

Mackenzie smirked as she tilted her head, indicating that she was interested, “wanna let me know what happened?”

“I mean, you could walk away….”

“kinda thinking of that, really.” Mack began, “but I’m here for a drink and you’re blocking my way,” The blonde doesn’t mean to sound passive aggressive, “erm, do you want anything?”

“See– that’s exactly what I always want to hear, why can’t everyone just stroke my ego like you do. And honestly– I do like to think of myself as the breaker of hearts, probably not true though.”

“because not everyone is such a supportive friend like me,” the blonde replied with a smug on her face, “you’re just too adorable for that, though.”

“So I’m just sitting there, trying to look like I’m pretending to study when this guy comes up to me and asks me if I have a phone charger. I say no because– I mean yeah I had a phone charger but it’s a really good one, okay and I don’t trust people. And then half an hour later he comes back and sits down, looking super solemn and says, I shit you not– ‘I have to break up with you. I want all my stuff back, this just isn’t going to work out,’ and then he asks me if I’m okay, and I just nod cause I mean yeah, sure– you know, I don’t know him. And he just leaves again. So yeah, that’s the shortest relationship I’ve ever been in. And he still treated me better than half the guys I dated.”

“trust be babe, I have never heard of a story as remarkable and astonishing like yours in such a long time,” mack leaned back on the chair, “i hope he’s holding up well like the rest of the guys you’ve dated.”

“Hey… “ the redhead almost hesitantly greeted the person who entered the kitchen, slowly looking up at them. “It’s not as bad as it looks, I swear.”

“what happened?” Mack smirked as she walked towards the kitchen table. “got into a cat fight?”

“Don’t ask me why I thought this job was a good idea.. it pays well” Xavier laughed once to the person nearest him as he put ice on the fresh bruise from one of the drunken people he didn’t let into the bar an hour ago. “Also don’t tell Luna I got punched.” He shook his head, not looking at the person.

Mackenzie side eyed her friend for a brief moment before fixing her baby blues back to her drink, “I’m just gonna ask why you choose to work,” she replied simply as she took a sip off her mojito.

“Well fancy seeing you here. Can I get you a drink? Or maybe some fresh air? Or a trip to my bed?” He asked with a small smirk as he looked around the frat party.
