I remember this. But I feel we’re missing some key points. When it happened, he was out jogging with his puppy:

He heard screams and sprinted towards them. He jumped a fence, saw a man pinning a woman down and immediately fly-kicked him in the face, knocking him out. He then gave the woman his jacket because her dress was ripped and got her a taxi home. She only managed to get in contact with him and tell the papers cause she later found his driver’s license in the pocket of the jacket.

“If I see a person in danger then I will intervene. I would not want to ignore it and then read the next day that a woman had been raped or murdered.”

And his message to the attacker:

“He is a coward and a man with no morals. I won’t forget his face.”

Newt Scamander is my autistic son

(Mild spoilers for the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)

- Almost never makes direct eye contact with people - Special interest in magical creatures - Gets so fixated on things (like his creatures) that he becomes unaware of his surroundings, even if they’re dangerous - Says that people don’t tend to like him, they usually think he’s annoying - Speaks quietly, mumbles, and generally has a stilted way of speaking - Sometimes uses scripts that don’t quite work for the situation, like when he’s first introducing himself to Kowalski and Tina - Doesn’t follow social norms or laws (like those of the American wizarding government) if they don’t align with his values - Gets frustrated/confused when people suddenly change the rules, like when Tina says they actually shouldn’t obliviate Kowalski - Decides that he likes and is friends with Kowalski but forgets to actually let him KNOW that until the very end of the film (lord knows I’ve done this) - Prefers creatures to people and has an easier time understanding the former - He also seems to empathize with creatures as being things that are misunderstood - Has hyperempathy, especially for for his creatures and people who are hurting (like Credence) - Comes up with out-of-the-box, creative solutions for problems because it doesn’t occur to him to BE in the box

So you know how Newt puts his wand in his mouth, So what if he accidentally used to chew his wand. Like people chew pencils and he would do it when he was really focused but sometimes it would accidentally fire random spells at people or inanimate objects. Eventually one of his professors would get so sick of it him chewing it they would cast a spell so whenever Newt would chew on his wand it tasted like his least favorite flavor.

-tells bedtime stories to his creatures. -FRECKLES !!! -he really likes Earnest Hemmingway’s books, along with the Secret Garden and The Great Gatsby. -he really likes to travel. -he doesn’t really make eye contact with people, it’s really hard for him and it makes him very uncomfortable in situations. -mumbles a lot. -he also gets frustrated and confused easily. -sometimes when he’s angry or sad he’ll spend days in his case, with the creatures. Tina always leaves food out for him. -platonic hand holding with Tina, Jacob and/or Queenie. -he gets up like, really early. -his favorite subjects are care of magical creatures and herbology. -he drinks a unhealthy amount of tea. -he would always bundle up in the many hufflepuff scarves he collected through his years at hogwarts. He stole some of them from people. -he read a lot because people never really talked to him that much. -has extreme social anxiety. -he has really bad posture. -pro oversized sweaters. -owns wayy too many scarves. -vvv shy bean. -he’s a really good listener. -smol queer. -he gives really awkward compliments. -sometime he’ll fall asleep with his creatures and they try to keep him warm. Like you’ll bring up his magical creatures and he’ll just go on and on. -vvv clumsy. -he tries baking with Jacob and Queenie and he ends up knocking a few things over and he’s just really clumsy. -he cares about everything and wishes everyone the best.

Newt Scamander is on the autism spectrum no?

1) he rarely makes eye contact 2) he relates better to animals than people 3) extremely literal and logical 4) has a hard time making friends 6) collecting and categorizing a single interest to the point of impacting his life and relationships 7) He seems uncomfortable with emotions except when with animals. When he is able to connect emotionally with humans, its the outcasts like himself. 8) He doesn’t acknowledge rules that don’t fit his logic. Not in a “I’m a badass the rules don’t apply to me" way but a “does not compute” sort of way

Maybe I’m seeing what I want to see but I LOVE THIS. Visibility makes me happy :)
