Of Magickal Almanacs

So, I was researching Llewellyn's Magickal Almanac a couple weeks back--especially its color and incense of the day--and it occurred to me that the intent of this color and incense combonations isn't to tune into the astrological energies of the day in question. Rather, it is t help us harmonize or weather any astrological turbulence on each given day.

A pair of progressive Democrats unveiled a bill on Tuesday that would raise the federal minimum wage to $25 per hour, considered the bare minimum a single adult needs to meet the cost of living in much of the US. The Living Wage For All Act is the first bill to be introduced by the newly sworn-in Rep. Analilia Mejía (D-NJ), who won a special election earlier this month after helping to lead the fight for a $15 minimum wage in her home state of New Jersey. Citing data from MIT's Living Wage Calculator, the Living Wage For All campaign backing the legislation argues that $25/hour is needed for a single adult in most parts of the country to afford basic necessities like housing, food, and healthcare. As the cost of living has skyrocketed over the past decade and a half, the federal minimum wage has remained frozen at $7.25 and hour since 2009.

Old School Craft Formulas!

Someone posted a xeroxed copy of an article about Gerald Gardner and his original Museum of Witchcraft, which included the following ritual incenses and oils. The article itself was authored by Gerald Gardner, but these formulas seem to have been added by the late Gay witch and Stone Wall activist, Dr. Leo Louie Martello. It comes from an old issue of Earth Religion News published by Herman Slater:

SABBAT INCENSE

Presumably this formula makes enough for each member in a full coven since the first three ingredient are two ounces each, and each ingredient thereafter is one-half ounce by weight:

4 parts frankincense

4 parts myrrh

4 parts benzoin

1 part chamomile

1 part thyme

1 part bay laurel leaves

1 part fennel

1 part Solomon's Seal root

1 part rue

1 part pennyroyal

1 part rose petals

1 part wormwood

1 part vervain

Optional: Add some additional Gloria (a church incense) for additional aroma since it smells like sumptuous spices and vanilla

EARTH INCENSE

3 parts Juniper wood

2 parts cypress leaves

1 part myrrh

1 part each: patchouli and culinary sage leaves

1/2 part orrisroot powder

SUN INCENSE

Equal parts frankincense and myrrh

MOON INCENSE

Equal parts wormwood and camphor

MERCURY INCENSE

Equal parts gums mastic and cinnamon

VENUS INCENSE

Equal parts wood aloe and rose petals

MARS INCENSE

4 parts dragon's blood

4 parts rue

1 part each ginger and black peppercorns

Pinch of sulfur

Powdered loadstone

JUPITER INCENSE

Equal parts: aniseed, mint, hyssop, chervil, liverwort

SATURN INCENSE

4 parts myrrh

1 part elderberry

1 part cypress

1 part yew

1 part patchouli

1 pinch iron filings

Nota Bene: Various. planetary and Sabbat Oil may be made from this incenses by macerating them in pure olive oil and infusing for 21 days. This should be done, presumably after bringing the incense together in a mortar and pestle.
