A reasonably renown pseudo-news website had gone out of its way to make shocking comparisons between the new president elect Donald Trump and Harry Potter’s own Dolores Umbridge. Celine had never been a super fan of Harry Potter but the article truly held her hand in that sense, walking her through the nuances of each caricature and the depth of similarity between the characters. It was the epitome of the topical, quick-witted humour that she embraced. Halfway in she’d snorted and thereafter clamoured to share her joy with someone else, showing the screen to Kinam with a cheerful grin.
“Right? And these edits make everything so much worse,” she idly scrolled through the album of edits, browsing variations of Trump’s tan skin clashing against the garishly bright pink suits Umbridge was recognised for. Her newly manicured nails, efficient short french tips, made a delightfully crisp sound against the screen every time she scrolled. Tap, giggle, tap, tap, smile. It didn’t even occur to her that Kinam might be referencing something different; the article had her wide-eyed and hooked on the little square that was her mobile, oblivious to the assortment of goodies around her.
