Threo pulled her head back into the open air, taking a deep breath and shaking water droplets from her hair. Did Shyarly understand her underwater? It made sense that people who lived underwater would be able to hear underwater too. Or maybe Threo just didnât have the right tongue for it.
She decided to repeat herself just in case. âHi Shyarly! I thought you were a big fish! I guess I was half right!â
She took a seat on the dock again, taking a kebab in each hand. âItâs good to see you too! And itâs pretty fun! Iâve been to lots of festivals all over the skies, and this one isnât too special, but thatâs not a bad thing. Thereâs a lot to do, at least. And so much food! They really fixed up this place super quick after that happened, huh?â She continued to eat as she spoke, not caring for table manners in the slightest.
âWhat about you? Are you having fun? I guess you canât do all of the stuff thatâs going on, huh? And youâd have to watch out for people on those weird water machines, too.â Maybe it wasnât fair for her, now that Threo was thinking about it. How far could Shyarly go out of the water, anyhow? There was also the issue of size, she was probably way too big to do lots of stuff.
Threo chewed over her food and the problem of Shyarly. Everyone should be having a good time, right? This was one of those situations that Anre would say she would have a response ability to do something about âHey, do you want me to get you anything? You can have one of my kebabs if you want. Or maybe you like other food? I can go grab you something! I donât mind!â
Right off the bat, Shyary regretted asking. Her expression grew cold and stiff. âItâs very rude to call merfolk fish Thero. Donât.â There was a sharp click of her teeth before Shyarly blinked again and softened her lips. It was hard to stay afloat when angry anyway.
âNot really. If I canât come out of the water, how am I supposed to enjoy the festivities. But nobody asked me if they could set up on the beach, throw all their trash in the sea...â And now she was getting angry again. Shyarly pinched the bridge of her nose, cutting herself off before she went on a rant. âUrgh.â Getting upset wasnât going to help Thero understand how she was feeling, if she even could. Better just to engage with the girl on her own terms, speak to what was capturing her interest in the moment.
âThank you Thero but Iâm fine. Plenty of fish in the sea for me. What else are people doing out there? I keep seeing explosions in the sky. Are those fireworks?â
