Good choice! He looks the most huggable!
“Oh,” Karina said with a frown, “I hope it isn’t anything serious? Like an island infection or something?” Though only joking the thought was slightly concerning. “You should bring her soup; I’m sure it would make her feel a whole lot better.” Warmed by the thought, Karina nodded, giving her thanks to the girl. “You know, I went to therapy, which didn’t help that it was middle aged woman. I think some of us just need to talk to people our own age. Just makes it easier.” For a moment the brunette opened up to someone. Maybe it was the lack of interaction with someone close to her age; or she slipped and hit her head. In less than two seconds it could be gone, but for now - she allowed it, not wanting to stay completely closed off forever.
Maddie felt bad for scaring the girl on her first day in a strange place, “Don’t worry! It’s nothing like that. Nothing anyone could catch..” She listened to her words and felt sympathetic and almost hopeful that she could have someone else to confide in and smiled at her, “I think you’re right. I always wanted to be able to have that kind of relationship with my sister...but obviously that’s tough when she’s the one I need to talk about. You can come talk to me anytime!”
Making me yawn already.
[gasps] WHAT?! HOW?? Haven’t you at least seen the TV show?
avcryx:
What is that even about?
It’s Game of Thrones, so it’s like a medieval fantasy about a civil war among dynasties.
“You’ve assumed correctly, yes, she is the one. An absolute winner.” Karina tried not to sound so sharp. It was impossible not to sound harsh when speaking about Beverly. “I mean, if you’re not busy, I don’t want to hold you up.” Pausing, she followed, still unaware of where anything was. Soon enough she would get the hang of it. “Hopefully everything is okay?” Karina asked, a hint of concern in her voice, it was the polite thing to do. “Well, it was nice to have some company. You’ve been helpful. Thanks. –And sorry for the bitchfest; I’m sure you’ve heard enough complaints.”
Maddie nodded, not wanting to hurl insults at someone she didn’t really know, especially not to the girl’s sister despite their obviously tense relationship. However, she understood what it was like to have conflict with her sister. “It’s no problem,” she assured her as she led her over to where the rooms for the participants were. Maddie nodded, “She’s okay, just hasn’t been feeling well lately.” When they got to the place, she smiled and nodded, “No problem. I understand having conflict with a sister. If you need to vent, I’m around and I don’t mind listening.”
“Sisters,” Karina muttered under her breath sarcastically, “Thanks – I’m not sure where to begin?” Dark orbs began to scan where they were standing, lost, unsure of what she would find on this island.
“I know,” Maddie empathized. “I can show you around if you want? I’m assuming your sister was the one charged with something? Mine too. Their rooms are this way,” she said pointing toward the other side of the island. “I should probably head back to check on my sister anyway.”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Karina felt the girl was lucky for not knowing her sister. “You’re lucky, honestly, Beverly is a real bitch.”
“Hm, yeah. I have my own sister to deal with. I can help you look for her though?”
Karina’s heart fell; she couldn’t even speak of the best book series she had ever read. Changing the subject seemed like the best option, “Hmmm –” the girl cocked her head, “Do you know a girl named Beverly?”
“Beverly? No, I don’t think I do. Is that your sister?”
Chewing on the inside of her cheek she tried not to say anything. “Reading, no, I don’t read. I only watch because Jon Snow is – totally hot.”
“Oh..” she said with some disappointment in her voice as she looked back at her book. “I actually haven’t seen the show yet. I wanted to read the book first.”
“Is that Game of Thrones,” Karina’s lips clamped shut, heart slamming against her chest, damn - she had said the wrong thing. “I watch the show –” saving herself an explanation.
Maddie looked up excitedly, “Yeah, it is! Have you read any of the book or just saw the show?”
[ hears someone say something ] ...Huh? Sorry I was distracted. This book is really intense.
[he stopped and looked at the girl before looking down slightly]
Oh.. I’m sorry! I didn’t mean for you to stop. It was really good.
