Thanksgiving in Peru
After lunch as I scrolled through facebook and looked at everyone’s family pictures and Thanksgiving feast posts, I was starting to feel a little down. I’ve never spent a holiday away from home and I missed out on my family gathering in St. Louis this year. I would have loved to see all my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandpa.
6:00 pm rolled around and it was time to head to school for our Thanksgiving activity. To be honest, I had low expectations. I mean, how fun could a school holiday function be? However, I am happy to say that I had a great time. Some students put on plays for a class project and they had everyone laughing. After that, we went around the room and said what we were all grateful for in our lives and then it was time to eat!
We all brought a dish to contribute to our Thanksgiving meal. The school provided the turkey and Kortney and I made deviled eggs. There was mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, fruit and vegetables, peanut butter chocolate bars, cookies, croissants with nutela, stuffing, spinach artichoke bread and more! It made me happy to be able to eat American foods again! We even had a secret santa gift exchange. And even though I was missing my family back in the US, I was so thankful share the holiday with my ISA family in Peru.
