hello i was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to remove text from pictures? Thank you!
of course! I’ll use this picture as an example:
first of all, I recommend to make your setup look like this:
because sometimes when you work on stuff when you’re zoomed in, you zoom out and realize it looks weird, so this way you can see right away what it looks like on the full image.
to get this setup, go to Window > Arrange > New Window for [image name]
then go to Window > Arrange > 2-up Vertical.
it’s always good to make a copy of your image. you can do that with the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + J.
first, I’ll use the Patch tool, which is located here:
basically, with the Patch tool you make a selection like you would with the Lasso tool, then drag the selection to an area that looks like it’ll fit:
then for the black area here you can pretty much just use the good old Brush tool (B), hold down Alt/Option to sample the color from the area and then paint over it.
another useful tool is the Healing Brush tool. hold down the Alt/Option key to select an area you’d like to sample from, and then paint over the text.
I’ll kind of go back and forth between the Healing Brush and the Patch tool, doing small areas at a time. in tricky areas I’ll often just do singular clicks with the Healing Brush tool as opposed to painting over the area. I recommend setting the mode to Replace when doing that, because when it’s set to Normal it can tend to look really weird and washed out.
I’m also gonna go over the area of his jacket where the text was with the Brush tool set to a ~20% flow, sampling the colors as I go, just to make it look a little less irregular. (you can do this on a new layer and then just delete it if you don’t like how it looks)
and this is the final result:
I hope this helped!
