Why no one noticed Fenton was Phantom
People are always like âHow did no one make the connection between Phantom and Fenton??â, but honestly, to me, it would almost be weird if anyone did.
These are just ideas, but I see so many people ask why no one could make the connection, and these things run through my head as points to consider.
Everyone is under the impression that you have to be 100% dead to be a ghost, and, as far as theyâre concerned, Danny Fenton is completely alive. People donât put the pieces together because, to them, thereâs nothing to put together. Theyâre not looking for some sort of connection.Â
With that said, the âDannyâ Fenton/Phantom thing probably strikes them as nothing more than a coincidence. Phantom is just a reference to being a ghost; they donât think that it may be word play on âFentonâ as well. Not to mention, âDanny/Danielâ was ranked #7-#5 on the most popular male baby names (between 2004-2007 - when DP was airing), and is still within the top 10 even today. So, it was very common to run in to boys named Daniel/Danny.
Also, unless Danny has some super defining feature(s) to set him apart from other boys, the only people likely to recognize him are close friends and family. Sam and Tucker already knew, Jazz found out before she was able to even begin to make the connection, leaving only Maddie and Jack with the ability to truly recognize him. And theyâre not known for paying close attention to their children, on top of the previous point of âthinking you have to be completely dead to be a ghostâ, they probably took any similarities with a grain of salt.Â
Most of us have had a time when a casual friend or acquaintances has come up to us after they dyed their hair, or are wearing a wig, have colored contacts, etc. and weâve thought âyou look familiarâ, but the actual connection as to how we knew them wasnât made until they specifically clarified. Most other people in DP did not pay much attention to Danny Fenton, so it wouldnât be that far out there for them not to see similarities after the transformation. There are a lot of people that arenât good with recognizing faces, even of casual friends, so unless youâre really good at recognizing faces of acquaintances - normally there wouldnât be a connection unless it was a sense of vague familiarity (which is usually quickly put in the back of your mind). Dannyâs hair color changes, his eye color changes, and itâs a wildly accepted concept that his skin color changes, which could really throw someone through a loop even if they were looking for similarities.
Again it comes back to Danny not having any super defining features. Heâs 14, heâs not even fully developed, there are probably various boys who have similar features to him. Since people arenât looking at Phantom and trying to find a resemblance to anyone (thats still alive); there really is nothing to link him back to being Phantom.
With that said, the one person who should have made a connection was Valerie Gray after D-Stablized when she became aware of the existences of Half-Ghosts, saw both Danielleâs human and ghost half, and was aware that Danny Phantom was somehow related/connected to her. She at least had a close tie to Danny Fenton and had more information regarding ghosts, making her realization more plausible. And honestly, that actually could have been something that was going to happen, but the next episode was literally the finale, so we never know.
Iâm not saying that itâs impossible for people to recognize Fenton as Phantom, but it actually still makes sense for people not to.
