hello <3 i have 8 more drafts i’m working my way through, mostly of pre-existing or new threads, and then i will be back in business !! i have a couple older ask prompts to respond to grouped in w that but otherwise, for the most part, most of them got trashed bc staring at my inbox for weeks and hoping something would click in my brain was Not inspiring creativity. so anywho i’ll queue up some new prompts to go out over the next couple days while i’m at work and hit them this weekend <3

there's a rare rumble of laughter from the elder, reaching to take hold of his brother's shoulder and pull him closer. he dusts off maven's shoulders as he tucks him underneath his arm. maven has always been this way, lonesome but steadfast, unrelenting and strong and just a bit stubborn. cal knows that saving maven every time things look rough in the ring when sparring will only lead to him feeling more lost but the idea of watching his brother get pushed around is sometimes too much. cal's love for his brother runs to the very marrow of his bones, and is carried in the cells that course through his body and pump his heart; it won't end any time soon. ❝ oh, mav. sure, I know. but we're a team, ❞ comes his voice, quiet and reassuring. if there is one thing he recognizes, it is maven's strength; though, his brother often doesn't seem to realize. tiberias sobers up from his laughter after a moment, bronze eyes looking down in search of those big blue ones that seem to resemble his so closely. my baby brother, he muses internally. strong, and kind maven. he wished they were as similar in personality as they were in looks but at the best of times, cal was considered to be . . . well, somber. he can't help the way his mind dwells on i don’t require saving. if he weren't there to save maven when things were controlled, how could he ever let his brother know he'd be there for him through the worse? he isn't babying him by stopping him from ending up bruised in the morning. ❝ you know that right? . . . that we're a team? ❞
lips twist into a grimace, somewhere caught between anger and embarrassment. he doesn't need cal to swoop in and rescue him, even if evangeline was beating his ass. it makes him look weak — because, of course, the perfect big brother is the one dusting off his shoulders. it's just another cruel reminder that he will never be him. fists clench at his sides, muscles tensed like a cornered animal prepared to strike. he almost makes to shove him off like his touch burns. ironic, isn't it?
it's the quiet insistence in his voice when he leans in to repeat himself —-— ( you know that, right? that we're a team? ) —-— that makes him finally relax, the frustration bleeding out of him as quickly as it had come. cal is as good as they come, and he never means to shove maven into his shadow. he has only ever loved him. ❛ yeah, yeah, i know, ❜ he murmurs, voice quiet in the back of his throat, the last of his tension disappearing though a hint of bitterness remains beneath the surface. maven shrugs his brother off on the pretense of needing to physically cool off, lifting a hand to drag them through curls dampened with sweat. ❛ just — evangeline's gonna get a big head about it, yanno. thinks she won. ❜ nevermind the fact that she was clearly already winning.
❛ ah , see , books like that were read to me as bedtime stories – knew all about royal assassinations by eight. ❜ he wishes he were joking. even when he was being kept in the stony cellar , they did not spare him the indoctrination. TOUGHEN UP , HANS ; only idiots dream of fairytales. he would never be a prince of substance – simply a runt scratching &* clawing his way up.

a crease forms between furrowed brows, eyes glued to him, and not bothering to hide the judgement that reflects in them. maybe not directly at him, for the most part at least, but definitely towards his family ⸺ who, as of right now, sound like comically evil supervillains she'd read about in stories as a child. shoving a herd of children out into the world just to fill them with as much hatred as possible. ❛ jeez. that explains a lot. ❜ a beat, cheeks flushing when she realizes that those words were definitely spoken aloud and not kept safely within her mind. ❛ er, no offense. ❜
stronger than you look. she huffs at that, though something lingers beneath the surface — pride, maybe. hah! see? she isn't totally defenseless and useless. ❛ yeah, well, i can't believe you made me angry enough that i felt the need to do it in the first place. ❜ anna's impulsive, sure, but she figured she'd at least make it past the first day before she resorted to violence. even if it's just a sack of feathers thrown at his infuriating face. ❛ it'll be a looooong trip at that rate, y'know. ❜

the golden rays of earth's setting sun make miquella's hair look as though it has been set ablaze, the light glinting off of golden bands of metal clinging to his wrists and the rings adorning pale fingers. it is a remnant of home and his years of dedication more than it is any preventative measure — such a little amount of gold would have done nothing against the rot. he misses it sometimes, though. home. or at least the concept of it. he does not miss sleepless nights spent fretting over his sister's condition. such thoughts do not leave carefully pursed lips. at least he has a home to return to.
❛ me too. ❜ a small noise in the back of his throat at most, soft in its quietness. he finally lifts his head from the book he'd been only half - reading, pressed into the corner of the sofa in her apartment. the ability to comfort once used to come easily to him, years and years ago, before his mind had been warped from its relentless studies and the desperation to just fix things. he feels guilty that it does not come so easily now. ❛ dreams are . . mean, aren't they? cruel, in their own way. forcing our minds to relive memories from a better time we can't return to. ❜
he folds long legs beneath him now as he sits upright, shoulders hunched as he leans closer to her. properly listening now, his attention fully fixed on her. he seems to hesitate before the words leave his lips, though curiosity wins out in the end. ❛ have you found happiness here yet? ❜ his mouth is mangled with the deep creases of a frown. ❛ i think if anyone deserves it, it's you. ❜
