Tonight, after eating a banging dinner of tofu and rice, my beautiful girlfriend Azaria said to me "I found my Tumblr the other day."
This small phrase was uttered randomly, out of nowhere, while we were setting up to watch Masterchef - not the most recent season, but the one before. And thus our night went down a path we didn't expect. Azaria showed me her pristine Tumblr, a beautiful mix of Hadid and Jenner sisters, Zendaya, Selena Gomez and a million other shots of beautiful 2016 stunners. The only person of the opposite sex she reblogged was Cole Sprouse. It was a perfect look into the mind of a younger Za, one that I never knew.
We laughed about how it read very - 19 year old Queer Gal. We spoke about how we both were on Tumblr last, as a closeted Queer person. It's had me thinking how Tumblr was such a visual expression of who we all were. We stayed up well into the early hours of the morning glued to our laptops, reblogging anything that tickled our teenage fancy.
When I logged into mine, I found a diary I had been keeping on Tumblr. I was surprised to re-read my own words and realise, I wasn't a bad writer, actually. I love the way pictures can tell a story, and I love that Tumblr allowed us to collect all the things that inspired us in one vision board.
I'm going to try and start again now, in a new chapter of my life. No longer the closeted teen queer gal, but as an out and proud Queer person who lives such a wonderful life. I'll be posting test posts (like this one), Pictures of my life and of course, reblogging any picture that tickles my fancy. Can't wait to capture the visual expression of who I am now.
